This stout is sheer beer poetry. Let it warm to about 45 F and pour it into a glass to fully experience its rich, roasty flavors and hints of coffee and chocolate. One glass and you’ll agree: The Poet is truly a rich, creamy brew of epic proportions.

It pours dark brown, not quite black as light does come through the glass. It has a pillowy, tan head. The aromas that shine first is coffee with a healthy does of roasted flavors. There are hints of chocolate. The flavors that come through first is coffee mixed with chocolate then roasted flavors. It has a smooth, rich taste with a little bit of a bitter bite.

Bottle picked up at GBBF 2014. Pours a very dark reddy brown/black. Light grassy, light chocolate/coffee aroma. Light to medium body, medium carbonation. There’s a light stickiness with some caramel, light rum... dark fruit with light prune and a touch of sherry, a little treacle. Rich and tasty. Nice.

Transfer from BA review on 11-8-12- Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice Appearance – The beer is served a deep brown color, almost black. It has a one half finger cream head that fades relatively quickly leaving a bit of spotty lacing. Smell – The aroma is nice and dark. It consists of roasted malt, cocoa and coffee smells. With these aromas is an oat and a light caramel sweetness which create quite a nice balance to the darker smells. Taste – The taste begins with a nice showing of oat and bread. As the taste advances, some lighter notes of cocoa and coffee come to the tongue and are accompanied by a light caramel sweetness. From there, the sweetness fades as a lighter earthy hop flavor come to the tongue. In the end a clean and oaty flavor is left to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is smooth but rather average or just above average in terms of thickness with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. The lower carbonation is very nice for all the darker flavors of the brew. A little more body may have been nice, but at only 5.2% abv and being very drinkable, it is quite good overall. Overall – A great oaty and darker brew with a smooth feel and nice flavors. A good easy drinking oatmeal stout. Well worth a try.

I had this at Global Brew. Pours brown with a tan head. Taste roasted malt, chocolate, coffee. I wouldn't drink this again. Not a fan. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Black, opaque, with tan head. Toasted, roasty, cooked oatmeal aroma. Biter, hints of chocolate, hints of roast but mainly a mouthful of chocolate. Full body, roasty finish, mild carbonation. Would love to have a full bottle for myself.

Black pour with a tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, toffee, cocoa, and a touch of coffee. Flavor is similar. Fairly light body so it’s pretty drinkable. Very smooth finish. A great example of the style.

Pours almost black, finger and a half creamy dense tan head, lots of lacing. Aroma chocolate, roast, toasty, slight coffee and earthy hops. Taste creamy milk chocolate, lactose sweetness, roast, hint of coffee and bready malt. Mouthfeel fuller body, lower carbonation, very creamy, sweet finish. Overall tasty, well made, perhaps not my favorite style, but this is a classic example.

On tap @ Pi Pizzeria. Very dark brown pour with a khaki head. Smells a bit smokey and ashy. Lots of roasted malt, some coffee grounds, and a bit of dark chocolate. There’s a pleasant bitterness to the flavor, mostly coffee and roast. Semi-sweet chocolate, a hint of vanilla, and lots of ash. Mild smoke and a touch of oatmeal cookie.
