This stout is sheer beer poetry. Let it warm to about 45 F and pour it into a glass to fully experience its rich, roasty flavors and hints of coffee and chocolate. One glass and youíll agree: The Poet is truly a rich, creamy brew of epic proportions.

One of my favorites. The oatmeal stout has a wonderful stout flavor and creaminess and one of the best mouth feels Iíve had in a beer. I find it very satisfying.

Definite aroma of coffee with a little chocolate sprinkled in. I love the bottle design, the brew itself is dark and thick and luscious. Flavorwise, on the first sip, all I could taste was coffee, there was hardly even any beer taste to it, everything down to the aftertaste was like a straight black cup of coffee. After enjoying it a bit more, I can pick up a little chocolate, and maybe even a little vanilla. It feels like Iím drinking milk, very full and soft palate. Ridiculously smooth and comfortable, helps balance out the bite of coffee. Overall, I think this beer is lovely, but just not right for me. I would like to see a little more complexity in the flavor.

Poured from bottle into tulip: Definitely the best of the bunch that we tried tonight. Pours dark brown with a thin khaki head. Aroma of cocoa, chocolate, cracker malt, and roasted leaves. Taste is mildly sweet, cracker malts come through strong (again), but is pretty well balanced with cocoa and light coffee. Medium body, nice carbonation, decent stout.

Notes from Denver trip: At Sputino on 32nd. Black pour, tan head. Nose is coco and dark roasted grain. Bittersweet, lean sweet. Middle is sweet oats and molasses. Finish is sweet, mellow dark malt. Had this for desert with their chocolate cookie...so good I forgot my cap when I left.

Bottle into pint glass, very deep ruby-brown color with light tan head. Aroma notes of roasted malt sweetness, coffee, nuttiness and light earthiness. Taste adds oatmeal, cocoa, dark fruits and faint smoke. Light body, low-moderate carbonation, creamy with almost sour-like roast finish. Pretty straightforward, solid oatmeal stout.

On cask at brewery. Super dark black. Peanut buttery texture. Spotty lacing. Full body of peanut butter, mild roasty coffee, slight sweetness.

Cloudy cool rainy day. Poured from 12 oz bottle into tulip. Medium chilled. Two finger light tan fluffy head dissipates in about five minutes. Some moderate lacing. Beer is black. Light to medium roasted malt aromas with a touch of earthy yeasts. Taste is lightly bitter with some woody notes and a touch of coffee, vanilla and chocolate. Medium bodied beer with a oily to creamy texture. Average carbonation. Somewhat long but smooth roatsty lingering finish. Overall good beer. Not as creamy smooth as expected. Have had enjoyable experiences with several New Holland brews so far.
