TheEmperor (8), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA does not count Jul 10, 2008 Very dark and heavy, even more so than Guinness. Thin tan head. Smoky with some dark chocolate flavor. They should really have a separate category for oatmeal stout, although there is a light sweet quality to this beer. nearbeer (1199), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Feb 20, 2008 12 oz. Opaque black with a four-finger head that settles into a lasting quarter-inch froth. Nose is peppery, smoked molasses with a faint metallic twinge. Flavor seems a perfect harmony of lots of flavors: molasses, hickory smoke, coffee, sour cream, brown sugar, ash, green herb. A tad larger than medium body is creamy smooth, watery enough to be sessionable, and pretty evenly divided between sweet and dry. SturmWulf (63), USA Aug 3, 2007 Nice aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, molasses, coffee and banana (!). Poured a nice black, with a good creamy tan head that slowly receded into a creamy cap. Left nice lacing. Taste of roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, milk chocolate. Medium body with creamy and oily texture. Soft carbonation. Unique finish that is sweet chocolate, then mild coffee in a long mildly bitter finish. A very nice stout. I will definitely buy again. A very good job by New Holland in what I consider to be a very unique stout. Served in a Pint. gws57 (988), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA Jan 25, 2008 Found this one bottled in Belvidere, Illinois. Opaque, dark red pour with a tan, filmy head. Sweet, malty nose with notes of plum and chocolate. Fantastic flavor, milky mouthfeel with an amazing finish of roasted almonds, bitter coffee and caramel. Strong, but very nice. Pigfoot (2224), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Sep 7, 2004 Dark as the night sky, black as can be, with a thick, lacey, creamy froth..a looker in the glass...liquefied Tyra Banks...
Aroma: AH! Cocoa, coffee, cream, anise, pepper, all thrown together, battered about, mixed-up, spicy, deep, resonant, AH!, gotta say it again...or, to put it differently, aaahhh!!!
Taste: full-bodied, marvelous mouthfeel, hangs wonderfully in the mouth, big chocolatey flavor, coats the senses, paints the palate, drips the cocoa all around the town...roasty, toasty, just a little bitter, and very tasty...this would definitely be a prime candidate for a staple slot in the old fridge. Such a darned perfect, smooth, drinkable stout...sip, gulp, ...ah!...there’s the chocolate again...oh, the pleasures never end...why don’t I have a 6-pack at hand?
