muenster (338), Sevierville, Tennessee, USA Jul 16, 2007 Draught. Pours hazy, cloudy golden orange. Aroma is sweet banana, clove, and hay. The flavor, however, contains the same strange gummy sweetness that is in a lot of the New Knox beers. NachlamSie (1387), Tennessee, USA Mar 29, 2007 Draught. Pours a fairly cloudy orangish hue with a long lasting white head. What I was expecting here was a tame, light take on the style. The aroma here quickly changed my mind and gave me hope. It’s nicely balanced with a lot of banana, cloves, white bread, just generally sweet and pleasant. The flavor just about knocked me back. It’s a bit too much when it actually hits my tastebuds. It’s way sweet with tons of candy banana bubblegum flavor and the finish is slightly sour and grainy. Notes of apples come through. cloying. bubbleflubber (654), Collinsville, Virginia, USA Oct 23, 2006 On draught from the brewer at the Floyd Fandango. The cloudy pour is indicative of style, but a bit darker, almost reminiscent of a weize-bock. I wished the head would have been slightly more retentive. Ok, this is definitely a hybrid take on the style (or else I got a bad batch). The nose is of airy confectioner’s sugar, intermixed with some coriander. The predominant flavor seems to be extremely pale malts. Wheat and yeast contingencies, which usually make for the style, get lost. A dry-hopped bitter back leaves this brew lacking a lot of character. There is, however, an interesting note of nutmeg (and lots of it) in the finish... almost hangs around until just the point of being unwelcome. It really misses the mark on any real citrus, banana, clove.... I could go on and on. (Before I get blasted, I’m quite familiar with the differences between a traditional German Hefe and and American Wheat. I have described, in detail, what many may consider to be a more European hefe. However, from the brewer, this was touted as a "nutmeg take" on that style. I’m just calling ’em like I see ’em.) Likeburning (149), Franklin, Tennessee, USA Jun 16, 2006 Nice, this cloudy orange-yellow brew is one of the better Hefe-beers that I have tried. Strong notes of orange and coriander. A wonderful summer beer. legion242 (1520), Richardson, Texas, USA Oct 21, 2005 Hazy, hazy khaki. Nice fluffy head. Good esters and bananas. Nice to see them use a good yeast. Good, proper effervesence. Becomes spicy and a bit thin. Nice lace and went well with BBQ.
