raphael (277), Portland, Oregon, USA Feb 9, 2008 On draft at the bottom. Aroma of chocolate, roast, caramel. dark head on a dark body light wont go through. the lighter body told me i had a porter, not a stout. As did the flavor,as this is on the sweet side, chocolate & caramel, with coffee & a little roast. clean finish. I’m not a ibg poetry fan but i liked this as it approaches stout ni some ways while avoiding the heavier elements. Angeloregon (2002), Portland, Oregon, USA Dec 18, 2007 Seasonal enjoyed at the NOL Hedge House--Plays like a sweet porter or stout. Poured a black-brown somewhat amber body and a wispy off-white head. Chewy, creamy, sweet, malty, and complex. A very nice fall seasonal. cathcacr (519), Portland, Oregon, USA Nov 11, 2007 On draft; a Fall seasonal that they term an Imperial Porter or American Porter, and it’s certainly a strong Porter. Much in contrast to the lighter-bodied cream stout my companion was having. Rich, thick, chewy and heavy on the sweet flavors of chocolate (and, they claim, licorice . . . but I can’t claim unbiasedly noticing the licorice there). Smoky backing always lurking in this, as it should for the style. It almost presents like an Imperial Stout -- big on flavor and enjoyable, but not a session-caliber beer I’ll regularly seek out. Still very good nonetheless; this is a brewer deserving some respect.
