Pours a slightly ruddy ruby orange with one finger of sandstone tan head. Nose is very rich and malty, notes of caramel and toasted grain, brown sugar, and dextrin. Notes of caramel and brown sugar, burnt sugar in a way. Some toasted grain, bready and sweet malt. Some bitterness comes through. Medium full body with a medium heat.

Bottle. Pours muddy brown with thin off white head. Nose/taste of figs, dates, vanilla, light whiskey, oak, molasses, toffee and caramel. Full mouth feel. Finishes a little "hot" with some warming alcohol. Otherwise smooth and flavorful.

22oz, Dec 2009 vintage with Don Younger on the label. Pours thick dark brown, 1/2" of tan head that dissipates quickly. Smells of vanilla, molasses, slight caramel and figs or dates. Full bodied on the palate, malty vanilla bourbon oak assault with a lingering caramel/vanilla/toffee aftertaste. There’s a slight hint of alcohol, but not much for a big beer.

Bottle with Carla. Pours a deep ruby/brown with light tan foam. Smells sweet of caramel, cherries and bourbon with a warmth of alcohol. Tastes sweet and almost salty with strong caramel flavors and hints of aged white cheddar/bacon and ends with a slightly smokey alcohol burn.

Draught @ Brouwer’s Café:   Left over after Hard Liver 2011.   Nice amber, moderate to large tannish head, super nice lacing.   Soft alcohol, a little malty, otherwise some citrusy notes.   Slight heat, a little bland not real hoppy or malty.   Seems a little soft for a Barley Wine.   A little chicken coop on the finish.   Seems a little too soft on the exit.   Yeah, this one overall was not big enough to really capture me.   Not off, but not very big either.   Would like to revisit in the future.

Pours dark copper with a rich tan head and a sweet molasses aroma. There is a smooth syrupy caramel flavor with a slighlty bitter finish.

On tap at Brouwer’s Hard Liver 2011. Ruddy brown pour. Nose has a perfect balance - sweet, candy-coated fruit, with some booze and a hint of citrus rind behind. The flavor is boozier and hoppier - a really acerbic note behind subdued caramel, and the whole flavor is just more dilute than I hoped. Great start - but it falls flat.

2010-07-01. Hazy brown body with modest beige head. 3+ Flavour starts malty with a good dose of bitterness in the finish, touch muddled (or is it just me?), bitterness grows as the glass goes on. 6+ Modest aroma, malty with light hop character. 6+ Average plus palate. [3079-20100702] Sample. Fruity grains aroma. Hazy, dark brown red body with a quick creamy off-white head. Sweet grainy fruit malt flavour. Medium body. Nice, drinkable.

Sampled on tap at SIB, pours dark orangey brown. Aroma and flavour of caramel, toffee and dark fruits. Excellent barley wine.
