t4h2c0 (65), seattle, USA Mar 21, 2008 Pours very dark for a barleywine, redish brown. Nice and malty with a well balanced flavor. Taste like candy and goes down easy. When it comes to barleywine the darker the better in my opinion and this one is very dark. Very strong beer that gives you a good kick in the mouth up front and in the aftertaste. Great beer!!!
riversideAK (1649), Shoreline, Washington, USA Sep 30, 2008 Hard Live 08. Dark brown pour with a tan head. Nice looking brew. The aroma has some light roast and dark malt sweetness accompanied by earthy and piney hops. Earthy hop flavors, roasted malt, chocolate, moderate sweetness and a great medium hoppy finish in the form of earth and pine. Alcohol is not overpowering but a pleasant accompaniment. Balanced and drinkable. One of my faves. boFNjackson (542), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 18, 2008 PIB, tap... Poured dark, reddish/brown with a beige head. Aroma is very unique, like bitter, tart cheese and cocoa. Palate is intense and assaults the mouth (one that clears the nasal passage way). Flavors of warming, smooth alcohol while buttery toffee-malt that comes to play, and some bittering hops. Nice to take slow and very enjoyable. Oakes (6979), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Mar 21, 2008 Hard Liver ’08 Chestnut brown, opaque. Milk chocolate nose with light alcohol and toasty hops. Rather bitter, with some toasty, chocolate malts. Fun stuff. A bit boozy...but a tasty finish. ndubs360 (57), portland, Oregon, USA Mar 10, 2008 Sampled at the 2008 barleywine festival in portland... pours a dark brown with a red hue, no head whatsoever, i think because it was brewed in 1998, it lost most of its carbonation. Strong taste of cedar, burbon, and hops. Smooth as silk and no taste of alcohol whatsoever. awesome barleywine.
