Small head that was mostly lasting with a decent amount of lacing, opaque, no visible carbonation, and a dark brown hue. Nose was malty, lightly roasty and smokey. Flavor was malty, lightly roasty, smokey, and hoppy. Smooth mouthfeel and medium body. Nicely balanced brew, very quaffable, quite tasty and worthy of a try. Angeloregon (2038), Portland, Oregon, USA

This all-year beer has the kick of a winter beer. With a deep chestnut body and a nice fluffy off-white head and great lacing, this beer possesses a big malty nose. Balanced out by a perfect amount of bittering hops. This one is chocolaty with hints of dark fruits and mild grapefruits. A bit boozy in the finish. All around quite good! | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 9, 2007 Deep amber/mahogany with decent malty nose, though not malt ball like. Hopping in periphery does not color the flavor or aroma, but contributes balance. Oakes (8172), Beyond the Great Firewall, China
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 27, 2007 Dark brown colour. Big head. Chocolatey, slightly plummy, toasty, grapefruity aroma. Toasty character with light citrus accents. With its blend of subtle roastiness and overt hoppiness, it reminds me a lot of Black Toque, but with more grapefruit and an extra splash of booze. fakepurseninja (798), Washington, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 7, 2007 Pint. and a nitro smaple Draft at the Hedge House, Portland. Medium brown color, hazy, thin off-white head and great lacing throughout the pint. Piney hop nose from arms distance. Some alcohol evident at close range, smelling like a strong Barleywine, with sweet malts even present in the nose as caramel and fresh bread. Big bodied and sweet at first sip. Some peaty/raison notes in the middle and finishes clean and hoppy. A bit fiery at first few swallows but not as evident about halfway through the pint. Rather good!!! cathcacr (597), Portland, Oregon, USA

LSD, as it was called there. Very ESBy but with a considerably stronger/more intense flavor profile than usual for the style. Quite sweet.
On re-rate from the bottle: Smoked elements very prominent. This almost presents as an old ale.
