4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 beerscout (274) - New Windsor, New York, USA - DEC 9, 2012Tap at brewery. Dark brown color. Thin off-white head. Rich malt and chocolate aroma. Very roasted character and nutty in flavor. Malts dominate in finish. A truly great session ale. My favorite so far of their offerings.

Decent brown ale. Very roasty, almost burnt, nutty, with a bit of a chocolate aftertaste
2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 pianotu (64) - USA - JAN 16, 2013
Had on tap at Astoria Bier and Cheese.
Not enough malty sweetness for my taste. Palette almost too crisp for the style.

Cute 16oz growler courtesy of j12601. Cheers, Jay! Pours a hazy brown with an off-white head. Nose is a beautiful bouquet of chocolate, nuts, coffee, and some mild spice with hints of earth. Nose is wonderful with hints of yeast. Flavor starts with mild nuts then goes into some mild chocolate, dry coffee, and mild spice. Yeast comes in and tries to dry it out. Outstanding nose, but the flavor is a bit less than the aroma promises. For a brown, though, this is very nice.

Draft at birdsall house. This is a really nicely balanced dry brown ale. Medium-light bodied with notes of sweet tobacco, brown sugar, milk chocolate and almonds. Nice grittiness to this beer too.

Yes, dear reader, this is a nutty beer. Not quite a session is correct. body is lingering and creeps up on yah. Earthy acorn nose and nut ridden ( like the Christmas nutcracker bowl nutty. Smokiness is enveloped by the moderate malt and the ...you guessed it walnut, pecan, acorn nuttiness.

Pouring at TAPNY. Pours a clear brown with a thin to beige head. Nutty malt and toast. Super nutty, crisp malt with a nice nutty bite. Big body, super nutty malt. Crisp long bitterness. Amazing stuff . One of my favorites of the day.
