On tap at the local steak house in Kingston that cant seem to understand what medium rare is. A lowland peat on the stout. Some light earthiness. Some hinrs of peat intertwine. Thin to middlin head. Upfront sweet body melds well with the smoke and light peat. I had two.

tap at gingerman. Chocolate and roasted barley hulls. Touch of charcoal and rich dark malts. Big beer perfect for cold weather drinking... wanted a bit more smoke on this, but tasty overall.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Ginger Man. Pours near black with a beige head. Medium smoked and roasted malts, nothing over the top, with a lighter sweetness, faint coffee, and a relatively dry smoked malty finish. Full bodied for the 4% ABV, and extremely sessionable. My pint disappeared in probably 15 minutes. Oops.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Proletariat, NY tap: Pours black with small creamy head. Aroma is roasted malts, bit of smoke, and a hint of chocolate. The peatiness of this beer is somewhat unwarranted coming from a true peat smeller such as myself. Taste isnít too bad. Normal stoutish with just a hint of smoke. Not too impressed.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
The best local brewed Stout I have tasted. Smooth to drink with a pleasant smoky taste that leaves no bitter aftertaste. Doesnt give you that to full feeling. This one I could drink all night.

From another promising new brewery comes this smoky release. Draft from The Growler Station and also at Good Beer. Not that stout, more like a brown ale or porter, with a little orange and coffee, and plenty of peat smoke flavor. It tastes fairly robust, but the ABV is pretty low. Good stuff - I look forward to seeing more releases from Newburgh.
