4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On draught at The Dutch Ale House. My wife ordered this beer since she loves imperial stouts and damn, I wish I had ordered it instead! Arrived to the table black with a fairly rich dark brown head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass and left moderate lace. Very pleasant chocolaty aroma along with heavily roasted malt. The flavor is more roast with some chocolate. Mild bitterness at the finish. Smooth and well rounded. Really nice beer!

My favorite beer out of Newburgh Brewery. It's got a coffee aroma. The taste is very malty, dark chocolate, and roasty. Surprisingly sweet finish. It's very drinkable for an imperial stout.

The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: Pours black with a light brown head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, and roasted malts. Taste is a little sweet, with loads of milky chocolate and light, but flavorful coffee. Alcohol is well-covered. Body is smooth, creamy, and easy-drinking. I didn’t catch many licorice notes or anything in there though. Pretty good IS.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a deep dark black with a medium sized and dense dark tan head. Big roast on the nose, dark chocolate and cocoa, a hint of stone fruit. This big guy is 11% and I can’t smell even the faintest hint of boozy heat on the nose. Lots of body here, the carbonation is small but lively. Alcohol vaguely pops up here, but not hot or boozy, just faintly warming. Loads of chocolate, cocoa, with a hint of coffee and a touch of vanilla. The roast picks up as this warms up, gaining a nice brownie note, the good kind around the edges, not the crappy ones in the middle that are still all batter. Long roast filled bitterness into the finish, with a touch of warmth and bakers cocoa. Incredibly good.
