COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Victory in 1783 brought great joy throughout the colonies, but there were also dark times ahead. Tired & angry Officers of the Continental Army grew restless as they awaited their hard-earned wages from our new Congress. A planned revolt was quashed by General George Washington, right here in Newburgh. This event became known as “The Newburgh Conspiracy”.

That dark moment in Newburgh history inspired the naming of our Russian Imperial Stout. “The Newburgh Conspiracy” is as dark as the hearts of those erstwhile conspirators. Made from only the first runnings of 2 separate brews, it is extremely rich, high ABV, yet smooth and drinkable. Hints of licorice and dried fruits are evident from the enormous amount of roasted malts. The high alcohol is warming without overpowering, making this a tasty treat for the cold winter ahead.

And at 11% abv, a pint or two of this would’ve surely put those angry officers at ease.

Tap at brewery. Pours jet black with tan head. Aromas of chocolate, Coffee, roast malt. Taste is all that plus some vanilla slight alcohol burn. Palate was thick, creamy and viscous. Perfect amount of carbonation. This stout rates right up there with the big boys.

On draught at The Dutch Ale House. My wife ordered this beer since she loves imperial stouts and damn, I wish I had ordered it instead! Arrived to the table black with a fairly rich dark brown head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass and left moderate lace. Very pleasant chocolaty aroma along with heavily roasted malt. The flavor is more roast with some chocolate. Mild bitterness at the finish. Smooth and well rounded. Really nice beer!

My favorite beer out of Newburgh Brewery. It's got a coffee aroma. The taste is very malty, dark chocolate, and roasty. Surprisingly sweet finish. It's very drinkable for an imperial stout.

On drafte at the brewery. Pours a thick jet black color with a finger of dark mocha head. Aroma of burnt sugar, vanilla, dark chocolate, and roasted malt. Taste of burnt toast, chocolate, burnt sugar, vanilla, and roasted malt. Sweet, creamy, and rich. Great imperial stout.

Draft at pony bar HK. Pours a black body with no head. Aroma is sweet chocolate and light roast. Mouthfeel is medium with notes of sweet chocolate, double espresso with three sugars and sweet roast. I should drink these at work.

UPDATED: FEB 16, 2014 On cask at Bierkraft. Complex beer on cask, good chile that goes with everything. Had this a few days later from growler and the nose was great. Thick mouthfeel.

The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: Pours black with a light brown head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, and roasted malts. Taste is a little sweet, with loads of milky chocolate and light, but flavorful coffee. Alcohol is well-covered. Body is smooth, creamy, and easy-drinking. I didn’t catch many licorice notes or anything in there though. Pretty good IS.
