An Englishman’s first love is his brown ale. However, in the summer he often fancies blondes instead! With this inspiration, we’ve created Newcastle Bombshell, an English style blonde ale. The combination of Cascade, Hellertau and Northdown hops balance this golden coloured ale’s light aroma and bitterness with toasted malt to ensure a silky smooth finish. After one sip of this brew, we’re sure you’ll agree she’s a real bombshell.

Bottle from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours brassy gold with a slight foamy white head. Aroma is lightly malty with a light hop mix. Med minus body. Flavor is a rather old malt with some citrus and grass - but the malt is roasty, and that’s somewhat interfering with the hop aspects. It’s drinkable, but not really working for me.

Tap at Union Jack’s. Pours clear gold with a medium, frothy white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is cracker and meal malt, earthy hops and sweaty notes. Flavor is malt and hop balanced with a dry finish. Light body and moderate bitterness.

12 ounce bottle from a Kroger. Pours a clear pale amber color with a thin white head. Fair head retention. Aroma of pale malts, grassy hops and a bit of skunk and butterscotch. The taste is herbal hops, toasted malts and a bit of caramel. Tinny note as well. Medium bodied. Seems like a decent concept that is poorly executed.

355mL. Pours clear golden. Medium, soapy white foam. Little to no lace. Nose is a tad vegetal, odd hefty parsnip, bizarre. Taste is watery, some lemon, candy corn, small citrus hops. Thin, somewhat soapy palate. Somewhat refreshing though. Not so bad.

330ml bottle picked up at Nina’s Mini Market. Shared with Scottish friends. Clear golden body. Low white head. Fresh grassy hops to the nose. Smooth malt-fruity taste. Discreet fruit bitter ending. Medium to thin bodied. Average for the style (Edinburgh 09.08.2013).

Bottle from Capone’s. Pours clear hay colored with 2-finger white clingy head. Nose is caro syrupy pale malt, bready citrus, hops. Tastes of bready pale malt, somewhat cloying, with notes of honey, noble hops, and some finishing pilsy bitterness.

Bottle:   Bright straw, light carbonation, small foamy white head, little lacing.   Soft malty nose, some soapy straw/hay as well.   Mealy start, a little buttery.   Otherwise soft straw/hay.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate, but leans thin.   Actually, this one seems thinner than others.   Snoozer of a finish.   Boring, so boring.

Bottle. Clear bright yellow pour with a fluffy white head. Skunky smell. Some cracker character. Pretty bad.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is medium to dark yellow. Aroma is moderately malty (cracker, cookie, cereal, husks), lightly hoppy (stale flowers/herbs), with a note of metal. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, slightly unclean. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, metallic. Pretty typical Newcastle quality. Fairly metallic in both nose and aftertaste. Industrial and just barely drinkable.

Bottle. Pours clear gold with a white head. Pale crackery malts, a hint of honey, and light floral notes, followed by a quick and lightly bitter finish. Not bad.
