Bottled. First impression, after not tasting this beer in years: this ale is brown only in name and color. Sweetish cola taste with decent dusty bitterness. Some skunk, naturally. Refreshing I guess. I don’t think I’ve been missing much here.

Pours a nice amber brown color, Taste is extremely smooth and well-balanced, mild kick of hops near the end. No lingering aftertaste, just goes down smooth. Of course, The One and Only is Smooth Like No Other.

12 oz bottle. A dark, reddish brown ale with a white, rocky head. Taste of caramel and a hint of coffee at the end. A pretty good example of a brown ale. I would go so far as to say it is the standard against which I tend to judge other brown ales. Never spectacular, but a solid beer. I wish it were in brown bottles, not clear ones, for a more consistent taste.

All around decent beer but not special. Pours a reddish-brown. Malty aroma. Very smooth with quite a bit of carbonation. Tastes like caramel and nuts. This is frequently on tap wherever I go in Southern California, and it’s much better than the other beers I find it next to (Bud, Miller, Coors) so I generally would choose this one of course.

55cl bottle. The bench mark for Northern English brown ale. Deep bronze body, nose and flavour reveal rich toffee and roast nut flavours with undetones of plum and spice. Medium-lean body and hop bitterness balances well. Easy drinking dark ale.

The color is a dark dark brown, almost black. The aroma is nutty and somewhat malty. If your out with a bunch of buddies and you walk into a local bar with nothing really good, but by chance they have this, choose this one.

Bottle. Pours a reddish brown with a small whitish head. Aroma is sweet, malty, and some caramel. Flavor is rather sweet, with notes of caramel, nuts, honey, some molasses. Hops definitely take a back seat, but they do help to provide a counterpoint to the sweetness. There’s little carbonation and the beer is sort of silky on the tongue. I used to love this beer a lot more before I expanded my range. Now it might be a little boring, but it’s still a nice beer.

500 ml can 10.01.02 : about 16 srm Clear brown copperish color. No head and soft carbonation. Aroma soft caramel, a bit metallic and nutty. Taste like soft caramel just enough bitterness to balance the sweetness finish is medium long and it’s med in body. Nice session ale, easy to find different enough to please the beer geek in me.
