vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Jun 6, 2009 Pours clear nut brown with a reddish hue with a light brown head. The aroma is quite malty with toasted malt, butterscotch, caramel and some biscuit. Medium / light body with semi-sharp carbonation. The flavor starts off with lightly sweet toasted malt, bits of biscuit, low bitterness and on the watery side. The finish has a fruity side and minor hops along with a bit of diacetyl. Fair. GeekyJoe (1), Rocklin, USA does not count Jun 3, 2009 Newcastle Brown Ale is something that I have had many times. Each time I am left quite satisfied. It leaves a large frothy tan head upon being poured, but dissipates rather quickly. The aroma is very slight, but the color is a fantastic rich copper. Do not over chill this brew, because the true malt flavors only become evident if consumed slightly warm. This comes as a warning to those who do not like their beverages tepid in temperature. Over all it is a solid representation of a brown ale. trusteasi (1), Greater Manchester, England does not count Jun 2, 2009 I think this beer is fantastic! It tastes rather wheaty. It is the only beer of its kind and it has won four gold awards which I think it deserves. It is 4.7% but it is rather deceptive. I have to admit I find this beer stronger than most 5% beers.
It’s the yen an’ anny! Vertical Bacon Strips (874), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada May 30, 2009 Had this a million times. Nice clear brown brew with a good sized tan head. Smells of toasted malts, maybe caramel...maybe...and more malts. Taste is all malts and I’m pretty sure they don’t even brew this with hops. Too bad sometimes the flavour comes out on the empty side. Always goes down smooth and a somewhat flat, but that isn’t bad in this case. I can put back a couple litres of this in a night no prob. Drink up. drseusszb200 (187), Florida, USA May 26, 2009 pours brown with a head that didnt last. tastes very plain. pretty plain all around. mike67 (74), , New Jersey, USA May 25, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours a reddish-brown with negligible head. Aroma is very weak, mostly earthy hops. Very thin for a brown ale and very dry. Not much is going on a flavor side. I love brown ales but this one is terrible beer. I could not finish a bottle. The beer is easily available everywhere but this is the last time I try it. delnoche (214), Germany May 24, 2009 1pt bottle poured into a dimpled mug. Pours amber brown with negligible head. Nose is subdued dark fruits and maybe some honey. Flavor is very mild of dark fruits. Finish is very short. This is a very mild beer in all respects. It would make a good session beer. osu97gp (168), Atlanta, Georgia, USA May 24, 2009 Pours a red-brown with a fizzy white head. Aroma is very sweet, mostly of malts. Flavor starts with vanilla and finishes with honey and malts. Pretty smooth, but just a tad too fizzy for me. Decent beer.
