Newcastle Brown Ale was first brewed in 1927 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, by Jim Porter after three years of development. Production moved from Newcastle to Gateshead at the end of 2004 and to Tadcaster on closure of the Dunston brewery in 2010.

Thick, quickly disappating head. Faint floral/malt aroma. A bit filling for a beer so crisp tasting. Very light flavored with the hops overshadowing the malt as is typical in northern brown. Completely inoffensive and unremarkable.

When itís good, itís excellent; nice malty flavor, not too much in the way of hops but thatís excusable. Sometimes the quality varies; Iíve had sour bottles, but recently itís all been excellent. The new aluminum cans are a good idea, even though usually cans (except for pseudo-draft) are anathema to ale brewers...

A nice brown ale. A good taste for a night of lounging and not binging.

A pretty good brown ale. Itís the easiest to find, which make it quite popular. I would normally go with Samuel Smithís, but itís harder to find. Good all around beer.

UPDATED: MAR 7, 2003 A fruity, buttery nose that is slightly skunky. Light brown color. Malty taste that is buttery. Quick profile that ends in a slightly dry, but napkiny finish. I didnít like this and was disappointed.

A lot of users have commented that this one is overrated, and I have to concur. Iíve yet to be blown away by a brown ale. Overall impression: just slightly above average. Iíll go to a lot of beers before this one. Plus, the clear bottles donít help in preventing skunking.

Very nice presentation, good subtle taste. A very solid beer that Iíll go back to on occassion.

Sweet malt aroma. Chestnut in colour, little head. Sweet, tiny bitterness. Watery. Ordinary.
