Newcastle Brown Ale was first brewed in 1927 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, by Jim Porter after three years of development. Production moved from Newcastle to Gateshead at the end of 2004 and to Tadcaster on closure of the Dunston brewery in 2010.

Aroma is better than most, color is good, although the head is almost non-existant. Taste of alcohol shoots through the watered down taste, but nothing is too terribly wrong. A little skunkiness, probably due to poor handling (purchased in a hick grocery store) and the clear bottle.

possibly the most expensive and most over rated beer in the grocery stores in my area. looks like tea, tastes like shit. not a good combo.

We had just pulled into the colonial inn's parking lot when a commercial for Newcastle came on the radio. We go in and are taken to our table. When asked if I want a drink, I ask what they have on tap. We only have Newcastle Brown Ale on tap is the reply. Kismet I think to myself and order one. Out it comes whith a lasting tannish head and its chestnut brown color. The maltiness is apparent with a slight sweetness. The ale goes down, too easy and another one is ordered. It compliments the surf and turf quite well. Not the best beer in the world, but a quality ale with a strong international presence. A welcome sight to combat limited beer offerings.

A very easy to drink beer, but it doesn't leave an impression with me. Decent stuff though.

UPDATED: MAY 24, 2003 Draft - A fairly watered down Brown Ale. It is decent for a macro brew but is really nothing special. Mediocre aroma and color with slight head retention. An excellent introductory to berr - beer, but not much more.

UPDATED: JUN 27, 2005 King Overrated. People who don’t know anything about beer think this is a good beer. Too mild and boring for my liking.

This is my default beer at a pub. It's a nice brown ale, better when served at almost room temp. The aftertaste gets me (on tap) sometimes, but it's clean and strong out of the bottle. Best drank with a meal.

The one and only brown ale to forget, but fast and it's in a clear bottle...?

A average brown ale. Not much head or aroma. Smooth going down but not much taste happening. Just average

No big surprises or strong flavors, just a decent tasting but underpowered ale.
