Newcastle Brown Ale was first brewed in 1927 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, by Jim Porter after three years of development. Production moved from Newcastle to Gateshead at the end of 2004 and to Tadcaster on closure of the Dunston brewery in 2010.

Come on everybody. Refreshing yet flavorful. Bold yet unoffensive. Maybe Iím inexperienced but this is one of the best. Re-rate 6/15/02: After sampling a wide variety of beers recently, Iím not so sure that Newcastle carries the depth and character Iím after. I still like it, but itís suddenly a bit too sweet and weak.

This ale is a pretty brown color, but surprisingly clear; it looked almost like a lager. Given this, it is not surprising that it is rather light-bodied for a brown ale. The aroma was quite weak, and the head nearly non-existent. The taste is decent, but not particularly distinctive; slightly on the hoppy side, with hardly any nuttiness. An acceptable brew, but nothing special.

Not a very good example of an English Brown.

Nice fruity butterscotch nose with low hop notes. Good head but overcarbonated. fruity flavour that bacomes almost banana like and finishes sweetly.

Malty aromas like an alt beer - musky. Color of rootbeer, clear. Small head with lacing. Smooth, light body, watery. A bit sweet, malty, and a little hops. Smooth, pleasing after. Nice brown ale, good for everyday drinking.

Milk chocolate brown color with a consistent 1/2í whiteish head. Flavor of cocoa/chocolate with a rather cloying bitterness. When your other choices for the evening are Bud, Coors Light and Miller Lite one tends to be less critical.

Gorgeous amber-red body with an almond colored head. Unimposing flavor with a pleasant and inviting taste.

Deep red hue with little head but decent lace. The flavor is Bass-like, but unfortunately, without the bite. Not a bad beer, but a vigorous marketing campaign has made this brew overrated.
