MrAleman (111), Wiltshire, England Sep 1, 2008 Updated: Sep 6, 2008Surprising excellent ale, served in bottles only and a good solid malty ale taste. Good to be able to get this as an alternative to John Smiths sometimes. TikiE (360), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Aug 31, 2008 Bottled: thanks Jbass a well distrubted beer that is somewhat overlooked. Pours a brown color with thin white head; looks a little like cola. I hate to say it but it smells like roast with cabbage. The taste though is nice with a sweet aftertone of light roast and malts with cholocalte. rds (224), USA Aug 31, 2008 Dark brown with a beige head, this malty brew is pleasing, but a little light on hoppiness for me. PhatB420 (126), Pittsfield, Massachusetts, USA Aug 31, 2008 Nothing to write home about here. Not a bad brown ale, but misalligined from a great beer by far. There is nothing here that reaches out and grabs you, too much presence of malt, not enough brown. Rynoplasty (500), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Aug 30, 2008 Pours brown with a small off white head. Aroma is a malty and nutty. Taste is also malty, but a little light, with some nutty flavors as well. A classic, one of the beers that introduced me to things other than pale lagers. vernaye (8), , New Jersey, USA does not count Aug 30, 2008 Newcastle Brown Ale has been my favorite beer for four years now. I can drink it under any conditions. I do find that it is far superior out of a bottle compared to when you find it on tap. Also, there is the occasionally mediocre batch. It did take me a little whille to get used to it, but once I did I was hooked. When it’s good, it is the very best beer out there, no comparison. MrBunn (1521), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 29, 2008 Clear (ugh) bottle. Body is a thin-looking chestnut color with a thin layer of bubbles on top that have all but disappeared by now. Mild aromas of earthy and musty nuttiness are slightly underdeveloped and give way to a flavor that is much of the same. It sports a nutty backbone with some toffee malt presence and a touch of dusty earth and a sort of sweet finish with a bit of bitterness in the late aftertaste. islander22 (4), Vashon, Washington, USA does not count Aug 29, 2008 The rich brown almost reddish color begs you to drink it. The beer smells nice but not too strong in flavor. The flavor does not contradict but it is a slightly seet caramelized flavor that finishes slighlty bitter. A must try
