Crafty07 (391), Florence, Kentucky, USA May 14, 2008 Newcastle Brown in a bottle was my ’gateway’ beer. After drinking several of these on several occasions, my eyes were opened as well as my tastebuds and I’ve never looked back.
Smooth and low carbonated, this brown allows you to drink it far too easily and it’s quite sessionable.
Are there better browns, no doubt, but thanks to Heineken’s distribution, I can thank Newcastle for my love of beer! gary07734 (391), Tyne & Wear, England May 14, 2008 Updated: Feb 25, 2009This is an odd beer for me as I used to like it when I first tried beer, disliked it for a bit after I got into ’good’ beer, and have since re-tried it now I kind of like it again.
Pour is decent dark brown, very malty aroma, some yeast. Taste is pretty sweet, very much like liquid bread, plenty of malt, some yeast. Decent enough for a beer produced by the millions of gallons. Duker (2), San Francisco, California, USA does not count May 14, 2008 a bit too bitter, even for me. just not very enjoyable (in my tastes). the color was good. i just didnt like it, to be honest. phishpond417 (1861), Madison, Wisconsin, USA May 14, 2008 This is really the beer that turned me on to different tastes and styles. It’s medium bodied, but light in texture. Beautiful bright mahogany colour. the aroma is sweet and succulent, and the taste is even more incredible. often reminds me of apples. so delightful on the palate. kfl (71), Denmark May 13, 2008 Canned 500ML. Brown, reddish body with a small head.
Caramel aroma. Very thin, watery taste. A beer that you could drink all night but but it’s not a very interesting beer - actually kind of boring and very mediocre. CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA May 13, 2008 Not an incredibly great beer by any means, but about as drinkable as it gets without compromising on flavor. Subtle nutty and caramel flavors with a slight bitter hop finish. Not a challenging beer, but delicious nonetheless. mjs (1446), Helsinki, Finland May 10, 2008 (Draught at Gastropub Soho, Tampere, on 2008-03-07) Dark brown, some red. Hardly any head. Sweel malty nose. Some roasted malt bitterness in taste. gfolivares (67), McAllen, Texas, USA May 9, 2008 Pours a clear brown color with a descent white head. Sweet roasted malt aromas with suggestions of nuts and caramel. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Appetizing malt flavor with hints of molases and dark bread dough, that gives way to a gentle hop finish. An excellent session beer that is dangerously drinkable. No wonder "Nookie Broon" is one of the best selling bottled ales in England and the US. Try with steak and patotoes, or a hearty meat dish.
