doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA Dec 27, 2007 Pours a rich brown color with some reddish tones in it. I had a good 1" head on this beer, brownish white in color, and it laced the entire glass. Smells of caramel and malt. Kind of nutty smell to it as well. Tastes of caramel, nuts and malt. This brew has a great nutty sweetness to it. Smooth, thinnish for such a darkly colored brew. Decent carbonation that fades towards the end. I had this brew on tap in England a few years back and it was very impressive. The import model here in the states is definitely not as good as when its fresh. pepsican (883), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA Dec 26, 2007 bottle. Pours brown with a thin off white head. Smells of caramal malts, a bit of hops, and clear bottle beer. Taste was similar, more funk involved as well as darkish fruits but the light infection overpowered everything else. Finished smooth and a bit creamy. Decent, but nothing special. Hinez57 (129), Clinton, Mississippi, USA Dec 22, 2007 Nose is malty with crisp earthy hoppiness with a whisp of alcohol. Beautiful brown with a hint of amber, fast fading small thin head. Mmmmm flavor is malty with a well balanced hop profile. Not a bitter beer at all, perfectly balanced brown ale. Never had a thin wattery one, mouthfeel is lively, well carbed. Overall this is always an enjoyable brew.... though the one I used for this tasting was slightly skunked, scores a good 3.2 when not skunked. Come on Newcastle change from those clear bottles! kosko20 (302), Bemidji, Minnesota, USA Dec 20, 2007 I love this beer, its probably one of the best widely available beers I have tasted. Living in Kansas is hard to find really good beer so this is in the top 5 in my book. GoTrix (1), Puerto Vallarta, Mexico does not count Dec 19, 2007 For me this is the best beer that I ever taste. Malty taste creamy consistency a nice Light brown color excellent with and after meals,
perfects for a Saturdays soccer games = P there is nothing bad to day about this beer that I can’t think of. I enjoy it every time that I can have it sadly they don’t sell it here in Mexico, I hope they sell it soon, other wise I will have to continue ask friends to bring him whem they go to USA hehhe
quizmaster (13), USA Dec 19, 2007 A very drinkable beer for one that is naturally darker and heavier. Has great flavor - a certain bite to it. tomer (365), Rishon Le Zion, Israel Dec 19, 2007 Draught. Beautifull copper colour, aroma a bit artificial. tastes of cherry and some traces of vanila and cinamon, body is light and the finish sweet and short. Beer is quite simple and one dimensional but still a good session beer. vikingguy (138), Chaska, Minnesota, USA Dec 18, 2007 This was the transition beer for me between my "light beer only" college drinking days and my "light beer sucks" approach now. It was the first darker/heavier beer that I drank regularly and it helped broaden my beer horizons. Now days, the darker/hoppier/spicier the better. This is a smooth very drinkable brown ale with a malty, slightly nutty flavor and aroma. Ten years ago not many places in my area carried it, now everybody does.
