2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Tap: Clear brown, caramel colored body with a beige head that settles finely as a thin film. Metallic, toasted caramel malt aroma, CaraMunich all the way with notes of toast, nuts, & stale toffee. Hint of graininess, not much in the way of hops. Taste is a little more earthy but is still 95% malt. Old caramel, toasted nuttiness, milled grain, a bit of toffee, & just a slight hint of cocoa dust. Getting that steel-y flavor that hangs around a bit in the aftertaste. Honestly not terrible, much better than a lot of that other macro swill.

Tap @ Molly Malone’s, Helsinki, 30/08/14, thanks Gastjale. Pours a dark orange-amber with a big-bubbled, beige head. Aroma is caramelly maltiness, cola. Taste is rather watery, some caramelly cola maltiness. Rather light and watery with some carbonation. I’d give it a pass.

On draft. Not much aroma. Pours orange. Taste is bitter with a nice hoppiness. Good summer time beer in my opinion. I could drink a few at a time. Not sure why it is rating so low on here.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Newkey Brown! First time I’ve had this since my student days when I remember it being damn terrible, curious to see how tastes change now I’m a beer geek. This bottle was enjoyed at The Fiddler. Hazy brown pour with a tan head. Aroma of caramel, fudge, malt and light overripe fruit. Flavour is over moderate sweet and light moderate bitter. Light medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Not actually bad at all, better than a lot of the macro lager crap I was drinking back in the day.

Bottle 330ml. Clear brown with low off-white head. Cherry aroma, malty, caramel, notes of honey and herbs. Sweet caramel flavor, quite as the nose, sugary, light hoppy bitterness. Light carbonation, a bit dry, watery. Light body. Sweetish sticky aftertaste.

2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
330ml clear bottle, poured into a Tulip glass. Appearance is clear dark copper colored with a small beige head, that reduced quickly leaving a little lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel, butterscotch and bread. Flavours of caramel, butterscotch, bread, dried apricots and a hint of nutty notes. Taste is light-medium sweet and medium bitter. Palate is medium-light bodied, smooth texture and average carbonation. Overall Newcastle Brown Ale is a decent beer, it’s a little too sweet and light bodied.
