2.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Browny amber colour and a little head, A traditional old english style beer with a slight stout like smell and taste. Some caramel aftertaste if concentrated on but nothing too pleasant or appreciated, A rough/gritty beer that packs a punch with a bit of flavour coming through overall

440 ml can into pint glass, canned on 1/31/2014. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy ruby red/brownish color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, toast, brown bread, light nuttiness, light plum/apple, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Okay aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and light earthy hops/fruity yeast ester notes; with poor strength. Taste of caramel, brown sugar, toast, brown bread, light nuttiness, light plum/apple, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Minimal herbal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, light nuttiness, and herbal/toasted earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Good balance, complexity, and solid robustness of dark/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Fair amount of dryness after the finish as well. Medium carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a very smooth and lightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.7%. Overall this is a solid Northern English brown ale style. All around good balance, complexity, and solid robustness of dark/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A pleasantly enjoyable offering.

Much lighter than I remember it from when I was younger. Light body, mild caramel malty character. Faint aroma of sweet malts. Essentially zero finish. Not a bad easy drinking beer, but not quite sure why it’s such a world famous beer.

2.1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
UPDATED: OCT 10, 2015 Bottle @ home. Pours with a dark orange/light brown clear colour, small off-white head. Aroma is faint, and npt good: rubber and industry. Taste is medium sweet, slightly bitter, slightly sour, certainly better than the aroma. Light to medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, bad rubberish finish.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Denne brown ale har en fin mørke gylden farve og en fin cremet skum. Karboneringen er god og fremmer den klassiske brown ale smag af cremet karamel og den lidt søde smag, der afrundes af en lidt bitter eftersmag. En fin normal brown ale.

Pours a brown color with a thin white head. Aroma is caramel and toffee, and hints of skunkiness. Flavor is light on caramel and skunk. Bland compared to good brown ales. Just meh.

Piana blada, lekko różowa, średnio obfita, średnio trwała, drobnopęcherzykowa. Pięknie koronkuje. Barwa rubinowa, bez refleksów. Piwo klarowne. Zapach delikatnie estrowy. Czuć ciastka, słody, W smaku sporo palonych słodów, nuty kwaśnej wiśni. Słodycz pod koniec ustępuje goryczce, która zostawia lekki posmak. Piwo trochę płaskie. Wysycenie niskie do średniego.

A very moderate ale type Brown Ale. This Newcastle Brown Ale is probably the most well-known type, and in addition to its famous blue star logo betrays label also that this brown ale through the ages has been honored with several medails. It is a brown ale with nicely foam and a delicate floral aroma. It tastes fine of nuts and has a dry aftertaste. An ale that lives up to its reputation, but not impressive game compared to other brown ales I’ve tasted.
