Newcastle Brown Ale was first brewed in 1927 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, by Jim Porter after three years of development. Production moved from Newcastle to Gateshead at the end of 2004 and to Tadcaster on closure of the Dunston brewery in 2010.

UPDATED: JUL 21, 2005 Draft, served in Chicago. I figure the geography should be mentioned as this is likely quite different from what’s served in its homeland. Anyway, I got a rather nicely pulled draught at Pizzeria Uno, though it was served a little too cold. Nice "beery" smell compliments the warm, slightly roasty malt taste. Hops are slight and match well with rest of the beer. A fruity ale taste, almost like a Pete’s Wicked, shows up at the finish. A pretty good one to have.

Bottle at the doubletree at Newcastle airport. Enjoyed it more than I last did 20 years. No overwhelming tastes, just decent and steady. Dark in colour obviously.

As the name imply pour brown. slightly thick foamy head. Nothing complex with the aroma. Flavor really nothing amazing either carmel, some roasty notes, I taste fruit sometimes but not in every sip. Kinda unremarkable really

Pours brown with thick creamy head. Aroma of malt and caramel, some dried fruit hidden behind the other notes. Taste is sweet, with a bitter and abrupt ending, rather watery aswell.

Tap at Gabby’s at Bloor & University in Toronto. Poured reddish-brown with small, quickly dissipating head. Indistinct sweetish malt aroma. Medium bodied and smooth. Taste of sweet malts. This beer has bad associations with youthful excesses. First brown ale in decades. Not so formidable as I remember.

Bottle. Red brown with a thin patchy head. Corn syrup, light brown sugar, light nuttiness and light earthiness. Medium sweetness that starts drier and gets more syrupy. Medium body with slight stickiness.

Good, but not great. Love the color, but taste could be fuller. But so much better than average Euro Lager. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
