Newcastle Brown Ale was first brewed in 1927 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, by Jim Porter after three years of development. Production moved from Newcastle to Gateshead at the end of 2004 and to Tadcaster on closure of the Dunston brewery in 2010.

Newcastle pours a ruddy brown, quite clear, with a bit of creamy tan head. The nose is fairly malty, with notes of caramel and toast. There is a prominent cooked corn sweetness to the aroma, indicating dimethyl sulfide(DMS). Some consider this an integral part of the character of certain beers, but I’d call it a flaw. The flavor is strongly corny, with a bit of malt in the background and prominent sweetness. There is just a hint of dark malt character coming off as a bit of roastiness. The palate is smooth and creamy, almost satiny.

Bottle served super cold. Pours nut brown with a thin white head and grainy aroma. Notes of caramel, malt, toast, prune and chocolate are noticeable. The overall body of the beer is thin with a low hop bitterness but it is lively leaving a trail of lacing along the side of the glass. Overall a great session ale that is very well balanced and enjoyable to drink even if it is a bit generic.

Pours a light brown colour with a slightly off white lasting head. Aroma is quite sweet, not prominant, pleasant. Smooth taste, not strong or overpowering. I pick up lightly toated bread and a sweet finish. overall not bad but a little uninteresting

500ml can, pours clear brown with a very small beige head. Faint aroma of caramel. Taste is sweet. It is very similar in taste to the Russian-brewed Kozel Cerny.

Just had my first one. Like the dark brown appearance, has a pleasant taste but not the best I ever tasted, good on the palate, good after taste. Will drink it again if someone offered me a bottle.

Bottle. Pours brown color, medium size, light yellow head. Chocolate and nuts in nose. Flavor of chocolate, toast, caramel, nuts and oranges. Thin body. On sweet side. So-so beer. Missing some fulness abd bitterness for british style.

Paul Harvey once said "best of the lousiest, lousiest of the best" and I think that sums up Newcastle. For a mass produced beer it’s pretty good. There are a few other mass produced beers I like better but these always are pretty easy to drink and taste good. Nothing great but no off pudding favors. If I want a brown ale there are much better choices but I have no problem drinking this if the situation arises.

Bottle@ De Tolly Joogipood. Pours brown color with small head. Aroma of typical macro lager+ some hops, weak smoke. Taste is better than aroma, some burnt caramel, malty, watery. Not bad, but not good either.
