There’s a big difference between Newcastle in the can, versus Newcastle in the bottle. My recommendation: Buy both and see for yourself. The clear bottle does impart some off flavours and aroma to the beer if the merchant has not moved it fast enough, or travel and storage has been poor. Cans seem to provide greater flavour stability to the malt profile, and no oxidation occurs.

Pours a clear copper brown with a few fingers of off tan head. Some hazelnut to the odor. Smooth and a little creamy, some hazelnut with a bit of a bitter finish.

Deep brown, clear, light head with light retention, some lacy patterns from the foam. Sweet, malty aroma, picking up a slight nutty smell. Sweet, malty flavor, slight bread taste. Light amount of hop bitterness and flavor. Medium body and medium-high carbonation.

Tap. Dark brown pour with no head (bad barkeep). Nutty chocolate scent with perhaps tarragon. Thin body for the style and very little taste to speak of. Nuts and vanilla primarily. Too mild for my taste. It actually could have benefitted from higher carbonation.

Refrigerated bottle poured into a glass. Pours a light brown with small tan head. Has a nutty aroma and is a little watery. Taste is light nut with a hint of sourness.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass. The color is a dark clear brown with a finger and a half of brown head a little lacing. The smell is has slight chocolate flavor with some nutty hints. the taste is smooth with a bit of The feel of this beer is pretty light and really goes down well. It is one of the best brown ales I have tried and it a really session beer.

Tap, bottle. Brown amber pour, small head. Medium everything - aroma, taste, and palate. Typical brown ale elements of nut and toffee, but just not done very well. Sorry, Eddie, I’ll wear the hat for you, but you can drink the beer.

Brown amber pour. Not a large head. Aroma of caramel and honey. Taste was a mix of light malt and roasted malt, though a little thin and lacking. It’s all right, but give it no significant praise.
