3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
MacArthur WIne and Beverages, DC sixer ($7.50): Pours a copper color with a white head. Aroma is mostly malty with a pinch of hops. Beer is on the sweet side. It is very mellow and very chuggable. Not really bitter at all. This is an uneventful session ale, yet an eventful session ale that is done right.

Bought a six pack for the house. Good clean ale with little to no after taste. Good color and flavor.

2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle from nuplastikk...thanks Greg! - Pours clear brown with a thin foamy light tan head. Dry earthy hops over a layer of light bread dough malt. A hint of rubbing alcohol and metal in there as well. Man, if that wasnít there, this sucker would smell pretty appetizing. The taste though--no. Lots of mineral dryness with a watered-down bready maltiness. Yeastiness transitions into a limp watery caramel sweetness through the finish. Hops are herbal and muted, though a little spiciness and rubbing alcohol dominates the finish. This beer almost had something going for it on the nose, but then just fell apart. Sad.

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a bright orange color with a medium sized semi loose head that leaves some lacing on the glass.
The aroma is grainy, kind of sweet, and generally malty. Itís certainly metallic smelling as well. Some light toastiness is nice but generally itís not a great smelling beer.
The beer is malty, lightly toasty with some herbal hoppiness. There is some toasty malt and a mild vegetal character, the beer is generally sweeter than Iíd prefer it to be, not all together awful but not really something that I dig. As the glass goes down it gets more enjoyable flavors start to meld better, the bitterness takes over a lot more. So itís not all together lost for me.
The carbonation is low which I guess isnít bad as it fits the beer well, and it pulls the low carbonation thing off well without being really very watery... but itís far from anything Iíd consider "full bodied".

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Nice easy drinking beer. The aroma is mostly bread with a hint of sweet malt. The pour is crystal clear amber with a small white head. The flavor has the sweet malt and a bit of bitters. A light unassuming beer.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Location: 12 oz bottle from Colonial Wine and Spirits, 2/22/12
Aroma: The nose is fairly subtle with some light bready, yeast, and floral notes
Appearance: It pours a clear orange color with a bubbly off-white head and average lacing
Flavor: The taste is lightly sweet and lightly bitter, dull, with similar components to the nose
Palate: A light body, leaning toward the watery side, with a tingly carbonation, and a mediocre mouthfeel
This was another fairly uninspired offering from Newcastle. This is a special tribute beer? I canít imagine the "founders" would be so honored by this one...

I was pleasantly surprised, fair amount of sweetness for the style, but still crisp. very drinkable, even though I hate that term. just enough hops to give it some character.
