"The Hoppings" - reputedly the largest traveling fair in Europe, takes place on Newcastle Town Moor every June. Several origins has been suggested for the name. It may derive from the word "Hoppen" an Old English word for dancing or funfair. It has even been suggested that people "hopped" about itching due to fleas caught from animals that travelled with the fair. However, we’d like to think it may relate to the quality hops used in the brewing of our famous beer. Enjoy Newcastle Summer Ale at the fair or wherever you are this summer.

Aroma: floral, herbs. Appearance: golden, brown, clear, sparkling, frothy, white foam. Taste: medium sweetness, lightly bitter. Palate: light body, thin feel, lively. Overall: This is one of the best session beers I’ve ever tried, and in my opinion, it is better than most beers offered in the average bar. It is very drinkable. A light amount of bitterness is present, but this is outweighed by the malt character. This beer has the potential for mass appeal. Let’s see if it ever makes its way into bars.

Dandelion, lilly, and honey nose. Clear amber, medium white head, nice lacing. Floral and sweet, just as it smells, but with greater intensity. The floral notes vacate in the finish leaving only a honey sweetness with an additional bready wheat flavor. Sessionable, flavorful, delicious. Wow, what a pleasant surprise! This is better than a lot of true craft beers. Keep innovating, Heineken/Newcastle. I like it!

Pours a clear, slightly coppery golden amber with a frothy off-white head that sticks around for a while. Yeasty, fruity aroma is fairly strong and quite appealing. Yeasty, wheaty, malty flavor has a slight woody undertone. The edgy and sassy texture makes for a nice finish to a good beer for kicking off summer.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA, opened 5/5/11. Pours a clear golden color with a large frothy offwhite head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of toasted malts and floral hops. The taste is toasted malts, floral hops, some stone fruits and a caramel finish. Medium bodied. Tasty.

Dobre i treściwe piwo z wielką pianą, która tworzy kręgi na szklanicy. Kolor jasno brązowo-złoty. Piwo na lato, nie jest słodkie lecz wytrawne w smaku, a także końcówka goryczkowa.

It pours a light blonde color, much like a lager. Very light "grassy" aroma and taste with a little hoppiness, no bitter and doesn’t taste very strong. Its smooth and doesn’t have an aftertaste though, and it tastes "light" like you’d expect a summer ale to. No sharp taste or anything distinctive, but its very easy to drink and I find myself wanting more.

Wow, I liked this way more than the other Ratebeerians. On tap at San Diego Brewing Co. Clear Pale amber-yellow. Tiny head to lace. Nose very light. Yeast and light citrus. Spice. Light and bright in the mouth. Deep lemon to yeasty wet mouth. Refreshing finish.
