COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Keg & bottle. Mainly for export to USA. Available in the UK at Tesco Supermarkets in 2012.
"The Hoppings" - reputedly the largest traveling fair in Europe, takes place on Newcastle Town Moor every June. Several origins has been suggested for the name. It may derive from the word "Hoppen" an Old English word for dancing or funfair. It has even been suggested that people "hopped" about itching due to fleas caught from animals that travelled with the fair. However, we’d like to think it may relate to the quality hops used in the brewing of our famous beer. Enjoy Newcastle Summer Ale at the fair or wherever you are this summer.

Golden with white fizzy lacing bead. Corn and sweet nose. Corn and bread, mild bitter.

smells just like toasted marmite sandwiches and tastes like a blander hoppier ’newkie’ probably better to go spend your hard earned elsewhere.

I picked this up at the local Food 4 Less fairly cheaply. Pale gold in color with a modest head, its aroma had a light floral earthiness to it over a touch of old honey. It had a bready flavor with a dab of toffee and a mild earthy bitterness that continued to the finish along with a hit of candy sweetness. Better than the Brown and the BMCs for the summer, but so are a lot of tastier beers.

Tasted from 12oz bottle into Geordie Schooner glass, of course. It poured a crystal-clear light golden amber colour with weak white head. Very predictable blond ale characteristics. A bit mushy and watery. A bit hoppier than standard Newcastle Brown, but still nothing special. Bland but drinkable, an okay summer spritzer, but there are millions of those.

Basically a kicked up newcastle, which I like. The base is a traditional nutty Newcastle with more bite and caramel flavor. I subtracted points due to the slightly unbalanced flavor.

On tap at Mellow Mushroom, pours a golden clear color, small white head. Aroma has that Newcastle smell, malty, but not as heavy. Taste is also Newcastle with some light hoppiness. I'm not a fan. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle. Pours a clear copper color with a small bubbly white head.of bubbly foam. Aroma is grassy and floral. Taste of bitter grassy hops, and some grain-like sweetness.

Bottle to pint. Looks solid; a transparent golden orange with white head and lively carbonation. Smells doughy and skunky. Tastes like it smells, but better, with a nice, refreshing hop presence. Crisp and clean on the palate. Light and enjoyable.

Red hot day, so figured I’d give this shot. Bottle. Amber ale with a thin white head. Distinctive "brown ale" malty nose. Not quite as heavy though. Gravy, malt and light hop. Taste is like a light brown ale - a bit like a brown ale shandy. Quite refreshing, but I’m not a massive fan of that distinctive "newcastle" taste, so it’s not a favourite.

A really smooth pale ale. More bitter than I expected and the best if the new castle beers I have tried. Smells skunky ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(bottle - 12 oz) Clear gold with a puffy white head. Slightly dry malt aroma with a light hint of caramel. Dry and lightly bitter at the start with a semi-sweet middle and a very surprising bitter bite at the end.
