COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Formidable Beast". What better way to toast the fall than to have a bottle of this formidable, dual character brew. At first smooth with mellow overtones of sweet berry fruit, a bite of bitterness suddenly cuts through, long, deep and lingering. Brewed with Rye Malt, it is naturally "blood red" in colour. Unlike the mythical wolf-like creature said to roam the bleak moorland surrounding Newcastle, this is real, so consider yourself warned!

Not much aroma her, the little aroma i find is of caramel, hay and some roasted grains. The appearance is not blood red as read on the bottle (luckily) but more of an amber colour. very clear with a white small head. The taste is sweet from the malts and some bitterness from what i think is some sort off roasted malt and hint off hops. light body with a nice carbonation, a bit on the fizzy side. Overall an easy drinkable ale, not to exciting but not bad.

Exceedingly average beer, faint aroma and taste, a little bit of roast malt and hops bite that fades fast. Not much to write home about here.

Sample at SBWF 2013. Fruity smell with some light malts and caramel. Similar taste. Nice try, but boring.

Pours a crystal clear amber with a slightly red hue, and a minimal offwhite head that fades quickly. The dominant aromas are red fruits and berries, and there’s a toffee-like aroma to it as well, while the finish gives way to more bitter aromas like cocoa powder and coffee. The rye also contributes to a spicy finish. The taste is fairly sweet, with a bitter-dry finish, but the finish is unfortunately quite short. The mouthfeel is creamy without feeling heavy, probably because of the carbonation. Overall this is a decent macro ale, and I’ll definitely have another.

355 ml. bottle. Clear, amber colour with a golden tint. Big, bubbly off-white head, that fades to a fat cap. Sweet aroma with caramel and bread malts, toasted. A spicy, smoked note - the rye malts. Taste is light bitter. Light to medium body, soft carbonation. Finishes dry and lightly bitter with herbal hops. I like the smoked, herbal dryness from the rye in this one. Otherwise rather ordinary Bitter.

Bottle. Does indeed pour like blood ... red and muddy, thin top. Interesting character ... definitely woody, nutty and fall-based. Drinks with a edgy bit of bark, a definite hazelnut consistency. Better than I expected, and interestingly Brittanic. Good stuff, maybe a bit on the thin side. (#5289, 10/13/2013)

Bottle at Theis & Mette. Clear orange-red coloured with a small white head. Sweet and fruity aroma of caramel and hops with notes of bread. Sweet and fruity flavour of caramel and bread with notes of hops. Hoppy finish.
