3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Itís a clear, dark amber to copper colored beer, topped by a small, dense, off-white to light beige head leaving some lacings. The aroma is sure on the malty side, with a faint spiced touch and a cheesy hint. Some chocolate hints too. Itís full-bodied and a tad too much carbonated, quite dry as well, even though thereís a sweetish touch in the flavor. Thereís an underlying bitterness in this one, lasting for a good while, but I donít think thereís enough of it to deal with the bready malts and chocolate hints. Some hints of tea in there too actually. Overall, a beer I canít really decide whether I like or not, but it tastes quite decent, just donít think I could do a session of it. 130829

Pour is a dark brown with a average tan head. Aroma is a decent caramel with some roasted nuts. Flavor is again roasted nuts, not much else and kinda watery. Not horrible but not overly flavorful.

Is this really different than the brown ale? Because it sure doesnít taste like it. I thought the bartender poured me the wrong beer. It had a light malty aroma but not much on the nose. It poured a a deep brown color, the color is actually a little darker than the brown ale. The flavor was a little nutty and lightly sweet just like the brown ale. This was really disappointing, more lack luster than the brown ale.

I was excited to find this in the grocery, neat werewolf clawing labeling props there CHAPS. First taste was, well, reminiscent of newcastle brown. An early nutty threat then disappears just as the head does. Color is supposed to be blood red ale according to the label. It is not blood red, its a brown.
Good only in a pub with fish in chips in Sheffield I suppose. I wonít buy it again.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Think malty original Brown Ale, transformed. Brewed with distinctive red rye malt, the initial smoothness is haunted by a zest of berry, fading, like the moon behind the clouds, into a gentle biting bitterness at finish.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a clear dark amber color with a nominal head and with just a trace of lacing. Aroma is fairly mild with some malt, caramel and just a bit of fruit. Taste of malt and caramel sweetness, with just a bit of fruit and nut. Has a mild bitterness that lingers just a bit. Fairly moderate body and smooth with a bit of character. A decent beer that goes well with a casual social gathering.
