"Formidable Beast". What better way to toast the fall than to have a bottle of this formidable, dual character brew. At first smooth with mellow overtones of sweet berry fruit, a bite of bitterness suddenly cuts through, long, deep and lingering. Brewed with Rye Malt, it is naturally "blood red" in colour. Unlike the mythical wolf-like creature said to roam the bleak moorland surrounding Newcastle, this is real, so consider yourself warned!

From the label description I was expecting an American-style red ale, but this is definitely an ESB. Not a bad one, and surprisingly flavorful given the low ABV, but I can't say that the rye malt reveals itself other than in color, nor do I pick up any of the fruit notes the label intimates. Overall, though, it's nice. B- ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Clear red in color with a huge tan head. Aroma of malt and some caramel. Malty and caramelly flavor with a bit of nuttiness before a light finish.

Rating #864, flaske købt i Netto, Vordingborg.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

More amber than red ("blood red"...really?). Smooth sweet caramel malts. Modest bitterness with hints of rye. Nothing lingering about the finish. Not bad but nothing special.
