"Formidable Beast". What better way to toast the fall than to have a bottle of this formidable, dual character brew. At first smooth with mellow overtones of sweet berry fruit, a bite of bitterness suddenly cuts through, long, deep and lingering. Brewed with Rye Malt, it is naturally "blood red" in colour. Unlike the mythical wolf-like creature said to roam the bleak moorland surrounding Newcastle, this is real, so consider yourself warned!

Crystal clear red and small foamy head. Sweet malt and grassy hops on the nose. Taste is a bit bisquity, english malt, brown sugar, grassy hops. Rather thin body. Drinkable, decent but nothing memorable.

Comes out of the tap a nice clear golden amber. Head was a bit thin, but that must be an artifact of the pour. Aroma is malty, hoppy and dusty, rather pleasing. Flavor is somewhat bitter, malty and a little fruity with a hoppy undertone, bitter but not too much so. Firm texture is smooth and has plenty of fizz. Overall, one to make you howl!

Aroma of wine? Mouth feel is good. Tastes of wine, caramel, very mild hop finish. Got 3 24 packs for $5.99 each and am still unsure of my purchase. Not recommended.

Pours a transparent copper with hints of red and a thin, white head that fades. Fruity, almost wine-like nose. Creamy but thin and flat mouthfeel. Taste is subtly straw-like, with not much flavor. Meh. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for the Daystrom M-5

As a fan of belgium and german beers and certainly a fan of irish/english beers, this blood ale is excellent. Great aroma, sweet scent. Appearance is dark red, very appealing and fitting to the name. Taste is great, I love the new castle ale too. Fruity, small bite, great finish. Carbonation is not flat, but just right for me.

Bottle. Poured clear ruby color with an average frothy off-white head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate complex rye malt aroma. Medium body with a smoot texture and soft carbonation. Medium bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable beer.

12oz bottle poured into an English pint at 42°. Color is a deep amber that leans to the brown. Carbonation is good with a small off white head. Aroma is a nice roasted malt scent with just a hint of hops. It has a lighter medium body that gives a smooth mouth feel with a slight fizzy feel on the end. Flavor comes in sweet and roasted then a touch of hops give a mild bitterness and just a hint of citrus. After taste is dry as the bitterness comes out a little more. Overall its a good brew, like a robust Amber crossed with an ESB.
