COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Formidable Beast". What better way to toast the fall than to have a bottle of this formidable, dual character brew. At first smooth with mellow overtones of sweet berry fruit, a bite of bitterness suddenly cuts through, long, deep and lingering. Brewed with Rye Malt, it is naturally "blood red" in colour. Unlike the mythical wolf-like creature said to roam the bleak moorland surrounding Newcastle, this is real, so consider yourself warned!

UPDATED: OCT 9, 2012 Pour from bottle into a pint glass. Deep amber color, very slightly reddish and very clear with a very foamy pour. Very dark and malty aroma with a hunt of fruit. Spicy bite at first that fades to a nutty taste (as per New Castle Brown Ale) and leaves you with fruity aftertaste. Mouthfeel is sharp and feeling stays awhile on the roof of the mouth. Initial pour was warmer than usual, which left a weak taste and mouthfeel. After letting a bottle chill for awhile, the flavors in the beer come out a lot more. Definitely chill before trying.

Medium sized tan head with good retention and a sticky lace. Clear, amber hued brew. Nose of malts, lil caramel and a hint dirty. Body is almost medium with a soft carbonation, lil oily. Dry malt flavors, lil grainy with some light fruit notes. Maybe a hint of grass and earth. Dry, quick finish, meh. Bottle from statelineliquors.

Bottle. Roasty tea and toast aroma. Clear copper with a small ivory head. Roasty malt, toast, and light roasty bitterness. Medium body and carbonation. Nothing special, but I wouldn’t mind it with pizza.

Nothing amazing. I'm sure on draught in England this tastes much better then by the time it arrives in Arizona in a bottle. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. On first sip it had a bit of a boozy taste, which was kind of surprising considering how low on alcohol content it is. Afterward it mellowed, and really just tasted like a nasty red ale. Not a fan and can’t recommend it, I mean if you’re stepping up from a Killian’s or something then have at it, but this isn’t a universally "good" beer. 4.5% abv.

Bottle. Deep reddish orange, minimal head. Flavor is sweet and soft, hints of rye and cherry cough syrup. Finish is slightly bitter and a bit funky. Slightly cloying. Not much to say about this one.

Guest tap at Obed and Issacs. A rather unfortunate thin watery beer with a dull stale flavor, and odd aroma. Serving: Tap

Brown with a creamy white head. Tart minerality, bittering hops, and a touch of rye. Some sweaty, musty notes as well.
