COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Formidable Beast". What better way to toast the fall than to have a bottle of this formidable, dual character brew. At first smooth with mellow overtones of sweet berry fruit, a bite of bitterness suddenly cuts through, long, deep and lingering. Brewed with Rye Malt, it is naturally "blood red" in colour. Unlike the mythical wolf-like creature said to roam the bleak moorland surrounding Newcastle, this is real, so consider yourself warned!

Backlog rating on 9-14-2012 at Cap n’ Cork Covington Plaza, Fort Wayne, IN, beer tasting. This bottled beer has a small tan head that is mostly lasting, golden transparent body, very little fast rising carbonation, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is caramel malt and grainy. The flavor is caramel malt and a light amount of hops. The mouthfeel is moderate carbonation and this beer is medium bodied. This beer is rather unimpressive to me as it lacks a lot of beer characteristics for the style. This beer did not leave me wanting to have again.

Bottle. Red brown. Tall white head. Fruity, prune aroma. Slightly watery. Metallic. Not bad,a good alternative.

Disappointing watery brew with an artificial fruitiness and an unpleasant tart finish. More effort spent on marketing than brewing.

"Very much like the regular Newcastle brown except for the slight rye presence and a touch more hops (the regular has virtually none). I like the additions. Not great still, but better."

Nice dark amber color with a small short lasting white head. Hints of sweet fruit get attacked by a bitter lingering hop flavor. Supplemented by caramel, and roasted malt. I like it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Alright, I purchased this fine auburn-hued brew from a Krogers in the Cincinnati suburb of Mount Healthy, Ohio - I found Newcastle Werewolf to be a delightful example of a rye beer with some fruitiness balancing the brews strong body and hoppy finish. I like it!

Aroma is very rich with warm, toasty malt. Flavor follws suit but is not near as rich. Nice red body. Very drinkable.

Pours deep red with big yellow head. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee and some cardboard. Slick palate with low carbonation. Aftertaste is dry, floral, sweet, roasted and lingering cardboard. Overall: Okay.

Bottle to snifter. Looks good; a transparent caramel with foamy off-white head that has a touch of light brown to it. Smells malty with a bit of hops; much like the style calls for. Tastes like it smells, but less balanced, and with some toast. Blander. Average on the palate. Not bad for a Newcastle brew, but smells better than it tastes.
