COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Formidable Beast". What better way to toast the fall than to have a bottle of this formidable, dual character brew. At first smooth with mellow overtones of sweet berry fruit, a bite of bitterness suddenly cuts through, long, deep and lingering. Brewed with Rye Malt, it is naturally "blood red" in colour. Unlike the mythical wolf-like creature said to roam the bleak moorland surrounding Newcastle, this is real, so consider yourself warned!

UPDATED: AUG 30, 2014 Clear copper. Quickly receding off-white head. Aroma of dark berries, dark caramel and roasted nuts. Similar taste. Well balanced and refreshing. Very quaffable.A bit waterish aftertaste.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance had a light brown color with a two finger off white to white head. The head gently died within about a good two minutes leaving some light lacing sticking all over. The smell had a graceful blend of sweet to roasty with a decent dark fruit to light cherry and light caramel inside the malt rings. The taste was semi-roasty graced with a tad of sweet caramel-ness. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a decent carbonation rolling about in and out of some light harshness. Overall, not a bad brown ale nor a superior brown ale, still worthy of having again.

Transfer from BA review on 9-5-12 - Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance –Pours a light brown color with a billowy two finger off white head. The head has very nice retention but fades over time to give a good level of lacing. Smell – The aroma is sweet and roasted. It has a nice dark fruit aroma of cherry and some caramel as well as a roasted malt smell. Taste – The taste starts roasty. There is a lighter sweetness associated with the front of the taste. The sweetness is mainly of a caramel nature. As the taste advances some roasty and bitter hop flavors come to the tongue and diminish some of the sweetness. While the sweetness is overall lessened, some light dark fruit flavors come to the tongue. In the end a rather smooth and moderately roasty flavor is left on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thinner side with a carbonation level that is rather average. A bit of a heavier body may have suited the flavor profile a bit better, but for the abv at 4.5% and the moderate carbonation it did make it more refreshing. Overall – A very nice affordable and good session brown ale. It had a good flavor as well being rather refreshing.

Kobberfarget med beigt skum. Karamell og en litt vinaktig duft. Nøtter i smaken. Litt kort.

Sweet vineous aroma. Clear red/brown colour. Toasty bready, nutty taste with good bitterness, unfortunately some tartiness in the finish. Light foamy texture too carbonated for esb. Bad aroma good taste.

0.33l bottle. This is a clear one, light brown looking in the glass and it has a medium sized kinda beige-ish top. On the nose I get lots of old coffee grout and cardboard. Some traces of something softly roasted and there are also a ooze of sun damaged chocolate. Both dry and semi sweet in the taste. A good amount of something near roasted with dark malts and hints of more sun damaged chocolate. Kinda flourish also. Light oily in the mouth and it has a just above average carbonation level. Definitely drinkable, but not to exciting really. 16.11.2013

Good looking bottle and label. The beer is fairly flat, metallic, bit dry, too sweet and simply not very nice. A beer with a name, which in the end, is very tame.

Flaske, 33 cl. Kobberfarvet, klar øl med et lavt off white skum. Dufter af knækbrød og lyse røde bær. Og nutella. Tynd og vandig i munden. Vegetale noter. Maltsuppe med en let bitter finish.
