COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Formidable Beast". What better way to toast the fall than to have a bottle of this formidable, dual character brew. At first smooth with mellow overtones of sweet berry fruit, a bite of bitterness suddenly cuts through, long, deep and lingering. Brewed with Rye Malt, it is naturally "blood red" in colour. Unlike the mythical wolf-like creature said to roam the bleak moorland surrounding Newcastle, this is real, so consider yourself warned!

Clear deep light brown coloured body, like a cola, with a lighter bottom than top and a very thin, half centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of a pure ashtray - smoke, put out cigarette butts and perhaps a touch of caramel and malt - but really just an ashtry - seriously, smell it. Light-bodied; Pungent smokey and light everything flavour with a touch of malt and earth and very little else. Aftertaste of smoke and bitter metallic notes - nothing good at all. Overall, a pretty horrid beer, nothing going well with this at all and pretty bad tastes throughout. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 09-October-2011 for US$1.79 sampled at home in Washington on 21-October-2011.

Bottle. Color is disappointing - mostly brown with just a hint of amber. Hardly blood red. Sweet, fruity aroma with a bit of citrus hops. Watery and skunky with just a bit of berry. The label made this tempting, but it is a huge disappointment. Much worse than the brown ale.

First off, let me say that Newcastle Brown (the original) is one of my favorite macrobrews, truly a classic, even if itís not particularly interesting. That said, Newcastle Werewolf is swill. It tasted like someone took a batch of Newcastle Brown and dumped some cheap, funky hops in it. Donít waste your time or money on this stuff.

From the tap poured a brown color with a fair amount of head. Smokey malty flavor with a quick finish.

I really like New Castle, but Werewolf isnít anything really special. I preferred their Summer Ale. Itís still fun for the season, but the "blood red" color definitely doesnít live up to the color. The flavor itís self is pleasant, the finish is rather unpleasant and astringent.

Tastes like a newcastle brown ale, except with more of a berry, citrus flavor.... Definitely some blackberry somewhere in there.... Actually like the Newcastle Brown better, okay beer.

[4012-20110930] 12floz bottle. Skunky toasted cucumber grain aroma. Clear, amber red body with a quick bubbly white head. Old whiskey wood barrel dragged along a dirt road a few hundred metres and left out in the rain for a week flavour. Medium body. Not a fan. (5/3-/4-/2/8-) 2.2

Orange amber beer from the bottle. Citrus hops lend a grapefruit aroma to the thin off white foam. Body is good but few other malt notes. More hop bitterness and lemon zest predominate with a souring aftertaste. Not one of the better beers.

"Escaped from Britain" - too bad it didnt stay there. This beer sucks. Red color, and some kinda nasty flavor I just cannot put my hand on. Props for a cool label, but I dont think I would even ruin food by cooking with this swill.

12 oz. bottle from Total Wine - Pours a crystal clear mahogany color with a three finger thick off white head. Nice lacing. Aroma is floral and herbal hops. Flavor is esters (light berry) and light caramel malt. The esters linger a tad in the finish. Medium body. I like this better than the Brown ale.
