COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Formidable Beast". What better way to toast the fall than to have a bottle of this formidable, dual character brew. At first smooth with mellow overtones of sweet berry fruit, a bite of bitterness suddenly cuts through, long, deep and lingering. Brewed with Rye Malt, it is naturally "blood red" in colour. Unlike the mythical wolf-like creature said to roam the bleak moorland surrounding Newcastle, this is real, so consider yourself warned!

Bottle to glass. The aroma has a sweetness to it as well as breadth and caramel malts. Deep amber pour with medium head. Tinge of bitterness on the end. Pretty mediocre overall

Clear golden red with a creamy white head. Brassy earthy caramel and toffee aroma and taste.

Bottle from Whispering Trees Liquor: Created a firm thin flimsy layer of foam head while the liquid was a lightly tinted brown color which I found to be odd since this was supposed to be red ale style. The aroma has a grained malt scent that reminds me of the wort process or a bowl of corn cereal and milk. The flavor hints towards a bland and boring taste with only a minimum amount of sweetness and bitterness that doesn’t finish like a good beer should. This was the sorriest attempt at an amber ale that I’ve seen in a long time.

the fall newcastle. Very deep amber color like the rusty color of dried blood. The aroma is a bit astringent and grain but some blueberry in there as well. Taste is a bit sweet caramel but full grain taste. A little hop int he finish. Carbonation pretty high. a little blah over all

Totally not a bad beer. Classic Newcastle nuttiness with a longer, maltier, and richer finish. I don’t understand the low ratings on this one. It’s like Newcastle Brown that has been bottled in a proper brown bottle and flavored a little more for the craft brew drinkers out there.

14 nov 2011, bottle. Light nut brown, clear, no bubbles. Sweet, berry (blue but not blueberry) beer. Ugh. Thin body and fizzy. Actually tastes much better. Has some coffee grounds that come out up front. Unfortunately, it turns back into a berry Newcastle brown. Not very good.

Draft. Pours a dark amber with barely a ring of head. Smell is caramel malt and a bit of grain. I really see the original Newcastle being the base here with caramel malts, washed out and slight ripe fruit. Low carbonation. The flavour is a bit washed out and too subtle. No lingering taste. I am not a huge fan of the original Newcastle and this goes along the same lines.

Bottle [12oz] shared with HogTownHarry, garthicus, GregClow, jerc & mabel. Pours a deep orange-amber with a small diminishing bubbly off-white head. Aroma of toasted malt, chocolate and grain. Watery malty flavour along with nuts and grain. Average bodied. Not very good.

Sampled on draft this beer poured a red-amber color with a medium sized foamy orange-white head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was pepper and cola. The flavor was bitter and sour pepper, cola and nut. Medium finish and medium body. Underwhelming.
