"Formidable Beast". What better way to toast the fall than to have a bottle of this formidable, dual character brew. At first smooth with mellow overtones of sweet berry fruit, a bite of bitterness suddenly cuts through, long, deep and lingering. Brewed with Rye Malt, it is naturally "blood red" in colour. Unlike the mythical wolf-like creature said to roam the bleak moorland surrounding Newcastle, this is real, so consider yourself warned!

"Escaped from Britain" - too bad it didnt stay there. This beer sucks. Red color, and some kinda nasty flavor I just cannot put my hand on. Props for a cool label, but I dont think I would even ruin food by cooking with this swill.

12 oz. bottle from Total Wine - Pours a crystal clear mahogany color with a three finger thick off white head. Nice lacing. Aroma is floral and herbal hops. Flavor is esters (light berry) and light caramel malt. The esters linger a tad in the finish. Medium body. I like this better than the Brown ale.

2011-09-30. Crisp red amber body with a small off-white head. 3+ Grainy malt, sweetish not quite caramel malt. 5+ Flavour is similar, sweetish malt, bit grainy, meh. Average to light bodied palate. Not great, mediocre take on an English ale. Bottle

Blech. Horrible gimmick and tastes like rye soap dirt blood malt Newcastle. Not even worth trying.

Tap. One of the worst beers I have every had. It tastes like it has gone bad. It has a thin body with a very odd, musty taste. Thankfully I only had a 4 oz sample.

Location: Draft at Wicked Wolf in Hoboken, 9/28/11

Aroma: The nose is sweet and malty, rather light, with caramel and toast notes
Appearance: This one pours a mostly clear copper-red color with a foamy beige head
Flavor: The taste is what you’d expect from the nose, medium sweet, and not too much bitterness
Palate: The body is faily light (leaning medium), and the mouthfeel is clean with average carbonation
Overall Impression: I guess Wicked Wolf got excited when they saw Wolf in the name of a beer and couldn’t resist offering it on tap. This beer was pretty much what I expected. It is very "Newcastley." That’s pretty much the best way to describe it.

Bottle. Ruby colored brown with a short foamy tan head. Vegetal and earthy aroma with caramel notes and soft nuttiness. Taste is more caramel, sweet malt, light nuttiness and light earthy notes. Body is medium with a soft bubbly carbonation. Ends with more caramel notes, soft nuttiness, malt, and light earthiness.

Bottle. Had this while in Vegas. Not bad at all. Color was a deep amber color. Not really blood red. Flavor was a sweet malty, slightly bread rasting. Aroma was a caramel, light nut aroma.

Pours a deep orange color. Little confused by the sweet berry fruit reference. Makes me think it’s fake flavor. Taste really lingers and is unpleasant primarily. Frooty with a child cold medication taste. Thumbs down. Great marketing though.
