"Formidable Beast". What better way to toast the fall than to have a bottle of this formidable, dual character brew. At first smooth with mellow overtones of sweet berry fruit, a bite of bitterness suddenly cuts through, long, deep and lingering. Brewed with Rye Malt, it is naturally "blood red" in colour. Unlike the mythical wolf-like creature said to roam the bleak moorland surrounding Newcastle, this is real, so consider yourself warned!

Flaske 0,33l fra ICA Stakkevollan. Drukket hjemme 5 Okt 13. MÝrk brun. Pent & hÝyt litt farget luftig skum som varer en stund. OK lacing. Forsiktig malt/karamellaroma. Smaken svakt syrlig malt. Beskjedent fruktpreg mot slutten.

(bottle - 12 oz) Amber pour with a white head. Light caramel aroma with an underlying dryness from the rye malt. No sweetness in the flavor. Dry malts with a strangely bitter and sour finish. And not in the good way. Light dry rye aftertaste.

Twelve ounce bottle ( from $3.99 a six pack special) purchased at Remke/biggs, tasted on December 2012--yes, I have somewhat of a backlog to clear up. Medium to dark amber/ruby hue, small white head that left moderate lacing, pretty intense fruit/rye/malt aroma, medium to strong bittersweet flavor of rye/fruit/and a mustiness thatís not unattractive. Different and enjoyable, the best Newcastle beer Iíve had to date.

"Blood red" - hmm, Iím glad my blood doesnít look like this ;) The color is red amber and it has a creamy, lasting head. The aroma has notes of caramel, fruits, berries and light nuts. The flavor has a light sweetness and notes of caramel, berries with a slightly harshness, malt and the finish is slightly roasted dry.
