COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Formidable Beast". What better way to toast the fall than to have a bottle of this formidable, dual character brew. At first smooth with mellow overtones of sweet berry fruit, a bite of bitterness suddenly cuts through, long, deep and lingering. Brewed with Rye Malt, it is naturally "blood red" in colour. Unlike the mythical wolf-like creature said to roam the bleak moorland surrounding Newcastle, this is real, so consider yourself warned!

Small creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly roasted grain, caramel malts, nuts, hay, rye bread, cereal. Taste is hay, roasted grain, caramel malts, rye bread, almond essence. Little bitterness. Kind of boring, but it could have been worse.

A solid presentation, with interesting ruby color. Aroma is indistinctive. As for the flavor, it is intriguing how the sweet prune/berry taste is layered with a rye undercurrent. However I dislike the fruit flavors which to me come off as somewhat artificial. The rye flavoring is ok. Worth a try just for the flavor layering effect that the label claims, but not a top of the line brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy

It is not blood red like the label claims, but it is a good-looking pour. Sweet, malty, and lager-like with a little prune / Dr. Pepper flavor. Grainy lager aroma. A decent UK macro.

Nice, clear brownish red color with a thin off-white head. The aroma of oak and bourbon are present. The taste is mediocre at best with an off-putting bitterness that I don’t associate with rye. The taste of Tennessee whiskey permeates. "Es no bueno"

Bottle. Reddish brown body with a small head. Aroma has cocoa and blood. Thin mouthfeel + high carbonation = feels like soda in mouth. Rusty taste with more blood and chocolate on minuscule levels. Strange AND watery.

Dark amber with a disappearing off-white head. Aroma dominated by caramel with a faint roasted note. Sweet malty flavour with fruity notes and a bit of roasted character in the finish. A little more personality than the Brown, but definitely not out to hurt anyone.

Bottle shared by esp0r, august 31st 2013. Dark brown, small offwhite head. Aroma of caramel and grain. Taste is caramel too, sweet, with a light bitterness at the end paired with a weak roasted coffe taste. Not really much happening here, but we’ve had worse.
