COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Formidable Beast". What better way to toast the fall than to have a bottle of this formidable, dual character brew. At first smooth with mellow overtones of sweet berry fruit, a bite of bitterness suddenly cuts through, long, deep and lingering. Brewed with Rye Malt, it is naturally "blood red" in colour. Unlike the mythical wolf-like creature said to roam the bleak moorland surrounding Newcastle, this is real, so consider yourself warned!

Draft pour. Dark ruby with a beige head of foam. Aroma is almost nonexistent. Taste is weirdly metallic and medicinal. Light, watery body. Medium carbonation. I don’t want to finish my sample. Its not good.

This is a remarkably unexciting beer--and I get excited over Old Milwaukee. This is pretty run-of-the-mill special bitter that makes a big deal about using rye malt for some reason. It has a bit of nutty malt character and some earthy spice from the hops. It is a pretty clean beer and devoid of off flavors so that right there makes it better than Newcastle Brown which always tastes metallic to me.

Flaske 0,33l fra ICA Stakkevollan. Drukket hjemme 5 Okt 13. Mørk brun. Pent & høyt litt farget luftig skum som varer en stund. OK lacing. Forsiktig malt/karamellaroma. Smaken svakt syrlig malt. Beskjedent fruktpreg mot slutten.

(bottle - 12 oz) Amber pour with a white head. Light caramel aroma with an underlying dryness from the rye malt. No sweetness in the flavor. Dry malts with a strangely bitter and sour finish. And not in the good way. Light dry rye aftertaste.
