COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Formidable Beast". What better way to toast the fall than to have a bottle of this formidable, dual character brew. At first smooth with mellow overtones of sweet berry fruit, a bite of bitterness suddenly cuts through, long, deep and lingering. Brewed with Rye Malt, it is naturally "blood red" in colour. Unlike the mythical wolf-like creature said to roam the bleak moorland surrounding Newcastle, this is real, so consider yourself warned!

A solid presentation, with interesting ruby color. Aroma is indistinctive. As for the flavor, it is intriguing how the sweet prune/berry taste is layered with a rye undercurrent. However I dislike the fruit flavors which to me come off as somewhat artificial. The rye flavoring is ok. Worth a try just for the flavor layering effect that the label claims, but not a top of the line brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy

It is not blood red like the label claims, but it is a good-looking pour. Sweet, malty, and lager-like with a little prune / Dr. Pepper flavor. Grainy lager aroma. A decent UK macro.
