COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Formidable Beast". What better way to toast the fall than to have a bottle of this formidable, dual character brew. At first smooth with mellow overtones of sweet berry fruit, a bite of bitterness suddenly cuts through, long, deep and lingering. Brewed with Rye Malt, it is naturally "blood red" in colour. Unlike the mythical wolf-like creature said to roam the bleak moorland surrounding Newcastle, this is real, so consider yourself warned!

Sample at Malmö beer and whiskey festival. Ridiculous, they should stick to making their brown beer.

Very nice bitter with stylish burnt tones from the malt and a long bitter aftertaste.

Not that bitter and quite nice to drink. Somewhat thin and dark interesting looks it was.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear, nutty brown with a smallish off-white head. Nutty, "tired" aroma. Light body, tons of crystal malt making a caramellish impression, again quite nutty with a distinct cardboard note. Ends dryish with no distinct hop impression. Verry so-so. 260314

Ok beer. Good mouth feel, starts sweet and nutty, but finishes bitter in that chewing on a pill sort of way. It’s ok.

Bottle. Clear ruby color, tall head. Aroma of malt and caramel. Average body, low carbonation. Flavour of roasted malt, caramel and some citrusy sourness.

Draft pour. Dark ruby with a beige head of foam. Aroma is almost nonexistent. Taste is weirdly metallic and medicinal. Light, watery body. Medium carbonation. I don’t want to finish my sample. Its not good.

bottle @ home, Aroma: malt, hay, Appearance:red, brown, clear, sparkling, Taste: light bitter. Overall: I like the slightly more bitternes than the "brown" brother its very much drinkable - but not one I’ll search for.

This is a remarkably unexciting beer--and I get excited over Old Milwaukee. This is pretty run-of-the-mill special bitter that makes a big deal about using rye malt for some reason. It has a bit of nutty malt character and some earthy spice from the hops. It is a pretty clean beer and devoid of off flavors so that right there makes it better than Newcastle Brown which always tastes metallic to me.
