2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 kdm1984 (433) - Missouri, USA - NOV 3, 2012
UPDATED: FEB 23, 2013 Newcastle Winter IPA - Pours gold with enormous head and very impressive lacing, especially at the top. Aroma very weak - not much beyond some earthy malts. Flavor is also weak - some biscuity malts and enough hops that it’s recognizable as a pale ale. This and St. Peter’s IPA, for example, are definitely more of the British style of pale ale than the American IPAs we’re used to over in the States. This is okay, but if I really want a British pale ale, I’m definitely more fond of the ESBs. 02/13 update: this is now in the ESB category? It doesn’t fit that one well, either.

Finger and half of head, clear copper body.
A wood, barnyard and lemon zest smell.
Fairly malty, medium bitterness, mild apple and pear taste. With a long dry bitter ending.
Smooth texture, low carbonation, medium body.
It’s nothing crazy, but it has a good solid profile. An IPA with more malt to it, which is nice and different.

Not a whole lot here, has a bready roasted taste to it. Finishes kinda nutty. What else would you expect from newcastle
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 AshtonMcCobb (1452) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - OCT 29, 2012
33cl bottle. Pours a honey colour with a nicely proportioned head. The nose has butterscotch and a little malt. The taste has toffee, some grassiness and then more sweetness. The palate is medium bodied and tangy and cloying in the texture and then it finishes quite abruptly. Overall, pretty uninspiring.

Cleat amber with a very thin white head. Dry and crisp bready aroma. Mild flavor with slight roasty notes.

Murky brown pour. Earthy with light hops. Burnt malts. Wintry I guess but not great. Just ok

Yeah good. Mile malty and spicy aroma. Clear amber color with a nice head. This beer is just what it says it is... a winter IPA. Its hoppy and has a spicy note for the cold season but the dominant flavor is the malty backbone. The mouthfeel is unfortunately overly creamy. Nontheless I like this beer. Its flavorful and sessionable.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 Oscbert (888) - Sacramento, California, USA - OCT 22, 2012
~Sweet bready malt aroma, some fruitiness, but not sure what, maybe raisin. Kind of candy like. Floral hop character.
~Pours very clear amberish brown color with quickly disappearing head
~Bready malty flavor with light toastiness, some sweetness, earthy hop.
~Light medium bodied, with medium low CO2, some tongue numbing, toasty bready finish.
~Not too bad. I could drink a few of these, but wouldn’t buy again.
