COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Zesty in character and jam-packed with a creamy finish, the Newcastle Winter IPA is full-bodied and hoppy, delivering unique and authentic malt flavors for the cold season and snowy matchdays.

Ernest (6749) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JAN 28, 2012
Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is dark amber. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (grain/cereal, husks), lightly hoppy (apricot), lightly yeasty (dough), with notes of cardboard, walnut shells, gasoline, diacetyl, dirt. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter, unclean. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Truly bad. Not just bland, but bad. Rough malt with surprisingly high oxidation/staleness despite this just coming out this winter. Fusel alcohol, rancid butter and dirt round out the nose...yum! Dirty aftertaste, thin and watery, off sourness, virtually no hops...it really does have everything you could possibly want in an IPA. To purchase by the case only.

blankboy (6633) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 3, 2011
Bottle [12oz] shared with HogTownHarry, garthicus, jerc & mabel. Pours a deep orange with a small diminishing bubbly white head. Aroma of diacytl, biscuity malt, caramel and earthy notes. Watery flavour of caramel malt, just a hint of hops and a very light bitter finish. Average bodied. Not very good and like no IPA Iíve tried.

5000 (6300) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - DEC 22, 2012
Bottle:   Pale copper, clear, thin sudsy white head, little lacing.   Pale biscuity nose.   Slight ashtray.   Also mealy.   Similar on the tongue.   Very pedestrian and unoffensive, but overly simple.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   No changes on the finish... yawn.

HogTownHarry (6293) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - SEP 10, 2012
September 30, 2011 with blankboy, garthicus, gregclow, jerc and mabel. Bright oily-looking light amber with a small diminishing off-white head. Aroma is sort of harsh, bit of fruit, bit of papery floral bitterness. Pretty much no taste, a hint of harshness - average everything and quick, a little ugliness in the aftertaste - ehhh mehh and fehhhh.

Tallahassee, Fl - Publix Super Market - 12 oz bottle. Medium copper pour, slight off-white head. Nutty aroma, hints of chocolate. Flavor has an interesting bread-like maltiness to it, some nuttiness, a brief citrus undertone, and some odd meaty notes. Surprisingly blends together well. Mouthfeel is thick enough.

Bottle. Pours a clear copper with medium creamy off white head. The aroma is a strong bready malt and caramel. Thin mouthfeel with strong raisin malt and caramel with metallic finish. A decent ESB from Newcastle.

Braudog (6024) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - FEB 7, 2012
Bottle. Pure amber and serene, with lazy, slow carbonation rising to just a little haze of a head. Not much up-front aroma here, and indeed the beer drinks with a very mellow malty character. Certainly any American expecting something along the lines of an American IPA will be sorely disappointed. To our palate, this drinks like a mild ale, caramelled and nutty. (#4471, 2/7/2012)

Golden-orange in colour with a very small head. Has plenty of dry pale ale character, both aroma and taste are well served in a full bodied ale.

jmgreenuk (5845) - Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA - JUL 17, 2013
Bottle from one of the supermarkets. Poured a crystal clear golden brown with a thin white head. The aroma is malty with nuts, leading to a medium bitter flavour with some liqourice, malt and nuts on the palate and a little hoppy bitterness in the finish. An IPA ? I dont think so. Itís more like Newcastle Brown on speed! Iíd like to think these guys with all their resources could do better. Maybe they need to look towards the newer, smaller micros for inspiration.
