Dry hopped with cascade hops results a uniquely crisp citrus, dry and hoppy flavor.

Light malt at the tip turns to an impressive citric second half. Rounds out with a well balanced bitter/sweet finish.

(En fût à la brasserie): Biscuit sablé mouillé, ramolli dans un jus d’agrumes. Plus sucré qu’houblonné, plus vers le miel que le caramel, finale molle sans attrait mémorable.

A: The pour is the usual amber color with nice clarity and a sturdy white head. The lacing is somewhat minimal, but is there. S: Mostly pine and a bit of grassy hops, much less citrus (really none, in fact) than I would expect for a pale ale. A bit of bready malt as well. T: This one does not really have too much going on. There is a bold flavor, and it’s pine. In fact, it’s really all you can taste in this beer. Quite bitter, especially for a pale ale, and without really any refreshing qualities. M: The body is medium with a smooth, medium carbonation and a bitter finish that lingers. D: I was not really all that impressed with this beer. I would have liked something a bit more citrus forward and balanced.

(Draft: Newport Beach Brewing Company in Newport Beach, CA) This is beer number 3 at this place, and this beer is better than the first two I tried. It couldn’t possibly get worse. This has a fairly light hops flavor, a bit citrusy, only mildly bitter for an IPA, but there’s so little maltiness that the hops jumps out. Mild sweetness. Lightly hoppy and mildly sweet nose. Clean, crisp palate, light to medium in body. Light golden color. Small white head fades quickly to a spotty film. Decidedly average for an IPA. Next!

On tap at the brewpub. It pours golden with a small head. The aroma has some berry fruit, caramel and light diacetyl. The flavor also has some off notes of cooked vegetables. Other than that, theres some caramel and a decent earthy bitter finish. Not great.
