And here I go in my reverse vertical ratings of this series. Pours out a deep brown with not much of a head. Aroma is of some dried fruit and malts. Taste is very well balanced with notes of plum, apple and some sweet caramel notes. The finish is suprisingly bitter with a few notes of citrus hops I can taste that 100IBU’s they claim on the finish. I liked this beer a lot for this style

Thanks sick_boy282. Pours a cloudy, medium brown color with a small head and not really any lacing. Aroma is malty and nutty. Flavor is really malty and nutty with a very slight fruit hint in the aftertaste. Follows up with some caramel and a little more nut at the end. Very smooth and coating on the palate. I really enjoyed this beer.

22oz bottle shared with Pailhead and Styles. Pours a cloudy copper color with a midsized off white head made up of large bubbles. Nose is sweet caramel, dates, light dough and alcohol. Flavor is light caramel, alcohol, plums. Palate is smooth w/ a bitter finish and light delayed alcohol warmth.

Bottle: Courtesy of SuIIy. Aroma of toffee, fruit, light caramel, banana bread, apple, and a touch of alcohol. Pours a cloudy orangish-brown with a minimal off-white head that quickly fades to a ring around the glass. Lots of caramel, toffee, light raisin, and hints of apple. On the first taste I got a lot of citrus hops in the finsih, but other than that initial taste, they were virtually non-existant. Light oxidation in the finish as well.

Newport Storm ’02 is brewed with only one malt variety, a very special variety known as Marris Otter imported from the UK. ’02 is hopped with a number of hop varieties (Cascades? EKG’s?, Clusters?, Hallertau? A lot going on here folks), bringing it in at a mouth puckering 100 IBU, or bitterness units. This big and brawny brew is powerful as well, coming in at a mighty 12% abv. Stylistically this beer resembles a "West Coast" barleywine similar to a beer like Sierra Nevada’s legendary Bigfoot Barley wine. I think it also could fall into the Imperial IPA category. This is a fairly new style that a number of American brewpubs and breweries have done. Its a beer with brawny malt, bails of hops, and a high octane burn. Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA immediately comes to mind as the bench mark example of Imperial IPA in my opinion, but there are many other outstanding examples. Newport Storm ’02 falls somewhere in between the two styles I mention, and it is one extreme beer. Newport Storm ’02 pours to a beautiful burnt orange color with a creamy white head, and a soft to moderate amount of carbonation. The nose on this beer is fantastic, with layers of aromas. Big citric, piney, and spicy hops marry with crisp malty aroma, and peppery waves of alcohol. The body on this beer is firm, but spirit like on the palate, with lots of big biscuit malt flavors, undertones of estery fruit, zesty hop flavors that dance on the tongue, and undertones of peppery alcohol heat. ’02 finishes with more big malt and hop flavors, then ends with a mouth puckering, long, dry hop bitterness, and a warming, soothing alcohol burn. This is a wonderful, soothing, sipping beer, perfect to warm yourself with after a day of shoveling snow, or a beer to relax with next to a roaring fire while reading a good book. Some age in the cellar has mellowed the hops, and more malt character comes though.

Hazy brown ale with a thin moka head. Light malt and cherries in aroma with orangey notes. Sweet malt and good resinous hops, piney, with wine grapes notes, nuts, and chocolate. Medium to rich bodied. May 2005, Capflu’s BW tasting.

Red/orange/amber color, with a tan head. Aromas are sweet malt, fruit, toffee, and slight smoke. Flavors are fruit, malt, smoke, cherries, and some hops. Alcohol is well hidden. Thanks to pineypower for this bottle.

Clear amber color, moderate carbonation, this is a smooth barleywine. The aroma is sweet and malty, the flavor is slightly sweet. Very nice
