Ungstrup (11031), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jun 13, 2005 A hazy amber beer with a disappearing beige head. The aroma is sweet with notes of prunes and over ripe fruit, and gooseberries, as well as hints of the alcohol. The flavor is very sweet with strong over ripe fruit notes, as well as wood, and alcohol, leading to a dry spicy end. omhper (10393), Stockholm, Sweden Nov 23, 2004 Bottled. Dark amber. Grapefruity cookie malt aroma. Rich and warming with soft mouthfeel. The vast hoppiness is hidden and balanced by the richness of the malt. Salty, very bitter finish. argo0 (6145), Washington DC, USA Mar 5, 2003 Medium tan head atop a cloudy red-brown body. Aroma is barley wine sweet/hoppy, but also malty -- caramel and some whiskey elements sneaking through. Taste begins sweet, toffee, caramel, and date, then adds some floral hoppiness to the malty flavors, before finishing with a faint alcohol burn. Leans more toward an English-style barley wine, but there's definitely some American influence as well. Rastacouere (5258), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Nov 20, 2004 Reddish orange robe. Shy off-white head. Huge condensed malt aroma. Intense fruitiness: mango, orange is overshadowed by rich smoked maple. This is a perfect example of Marris Otter’s potency. I can’t believe this is above 12%. Good grassy hops kick too. Extremely tasty, somehow liquorous thickish palate, low carbonation, sensuous maple syrup flavors make it seem very sweet, but this malt is beautiful and can lead you to forgive anything. Now that’s a killer, everything I want in a barley wine, too bad those beers are so hard to find. Hildigöltur (5051), København Ø, Denmark Jun 7, 2005 Bottled. Thanks Clark. Amber coloured. Dark fruits, malts and caramel in the aroma. Very sweet and warming with lots of caramel notes.
