3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 mgumby10 (1856) - Jupiter, Florida, USA - AUG 10, 2008
Courtesy Growler. Pours a dark caramel brown, with a small off white head. Smells of heavy fruits, with raspberry really standing out for me. Syrupy sweet on the palate. The flavor is pretty creamy and smooth, big vanilla and dark fruit belnd together fairly nicely. Little bitter in the finish of it. Not a bad brew, maybe a little too much alcohol heat pounding on you the whole way through though. Otherwise, decent.

750ml I bought on a recent trip to RI for a Reunion. Shared with bikesandbeer, dalekliz, and my gf cyn. Pours dark maroon with a half finger tan head. Nose is very nice with lots of caramel sweet and rich. Taste is sweet some of the choco and a touch of the razz mentioned in the commercial description. This is a strange beer, not sure how I feel about it. I don’t hate it as much as Dany (glougoburg). Overall its pretty good and well interesting.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 IrishBoy (3265) - Bakersfield, California, USA - MAY 19, 2008
Cobalt blue bomber from aladydrinker! Nose is like a very sweet barleywine; molassey boysenberries, prunes, and chocolate; clear red-brown with a small beige head; flavor has raisins, medium sweetness, this reminds me of the SA Triple Bocks I have had that don’t have the soy notes only weaker and tamed down. Decent ASA or barleywine!
2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Glouglouburp (4558) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 8, 2008
In short: An ultra-sweet syrupy fruity flat beer. Not gross but not far from it.
How: Vintage bottle (by now 2+ years old) from tertons, thanks a lot Nelson. Shared with the Montreal crew
The look: Cloudy dark brown body topped by a beige ring of foam
In long: Nose of fruity dessert. Taste is sweet, very sweet, very very sweet. Brown sugar, something that resembles raspberry-concentrate try to blend with the chocolaty maltiness. A syrupy mouthfeel hinting on tree sap. Carbonation is very flat. And to think that in this trade Nelson offered The Abyss and I said “no I already have three of them, can you send me a Newport 05 instead”. I don’t even think that “The stuff I pick stuff from my nose taste salty” would have been a more stupid and shameful answer.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Gregis (1250) - Shawnee, Kansas, USA - APR 26, 2008
Sampled at post-DLD dinner at Charlies Ale House in Munster, IN. Pours a muddy brown with a thin, wispy, beige head. On the nose is cocoa, raspberry and alcohol. Medium-bodied and slick with a "warm" dry finish. The flavor follows the nose with a tart, lightly acidic and woody-dry finish. An interesting and fairly tasty brew.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Bov (7098) - Bienne, SWITZERLAND - MAR 30, 2008
courtesy of jjpm74 - hazy bordeaux colour with almost no remaining foam; aroma of wood, prune, cherry and caramel; very complex; notes of alcohol; cognac-like; very malty, thick and very sweet, moderate bitterness, full-bodied; lot of residual sugars, woody with more prunes and caramel and a solid warming alcohol touch - raw and too much on the sweet side
3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 beerbill (2850) - Laurel, New York, USA - FEB 27, 2008
22 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with emerica66. I decided to open this beer now after reading about the NS ’07 from a recent post by puzzl and Immy. Sure enough, this bottle was short-filled by at least 2 1/2 inches. The beer pours a very dark brown with an ugly, scummy looking film for a head that completely disappeared moments later. Just about zero carbonation. I was happy with the aroma with lots of prunes, dates, raisins, caramel and chocolate, and was very hopeful all was not lost. The flavor starts out very promising with the same components as the aroma, but is quickly washed over with an off-flavor of oxidation. All of the flavors then quickly fade, and by the end, the finish is almost like drinking a glass of water, thin and virtually flavorless. A disappointing beer.
