3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 shigadeyo (2398) - Harrison, Ohio, USA - AUG 21, 2009
2006 Vintage
8/20/2009: Newport Storm ’06... Aroma: Toasty malt, really nice caramel, great malt presence in the nose. Appearance: Shiny caramelized sugar color, pretty much transparent, very mild carbonation. Flavor: Sweet, nice level of caramelized and citrusy orange, a bit of oxidation, good alcochol showing through; suble English or Black Walnut... Scatch that -- Hazelnut! No alcohol in the flavor, but it is slightly warming. Palate: Overall: Very, very nice. DRINK NOW! It’s just about as good as it will probably get... Really nice caramel maltiness without being heavy; the oxidation works very well with this beer; extremely drinkable.
1 pt and 9.4 oz. corked bottle ྫ.9% abv) from jjpm74 via trade April 2007. Thanks John! Rating #88 for this beer.

Bottle. Cloudy orange amber pour with no head. Aroma of vanilla and malt. Taste of caramel, alcohol, hops and faint pepper. Thick, full body as with most barley wines. Tart finish. Not bad, but a bit disappointed since I saved this for a special occasion.

Bottle, thanks to alexanderj for bringing this back from rhode island, to virginia, to socal, to norcal. This bottle has traveled more of the US than most americans. On to the real stuff. Deep orange pour, no head or activity. Aroma is sweet caramel and peppery alcohol. Flavor is the same, pretty syrupy. Not very flavorful.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 alexanderj (3082) - Gilbert, Arizona, USA - JAN 3, 2009
Bottle courtesy of mine and golubj s trip to Rhode Island and Boston. We got this in Rhode Island at Nikki’s Liquor. Aroma smells eerily similar to the Barrel Aged Levuds from The Bruery. Aroma of sweet, sugary malt, fruit and caramel. Flavor was perhaps better than that beer, as it was not extremely sweet. However, it was sweet with caramel, fruit, earth and a very light bitterness in the finish. Alcohol was well hidden, but it still was pretty rich, to the point of being syupy..

Bottle obtained in trade. Very wet looking amber pour. It looks shiny. No head. Quite a malty aroma with noticeable bourbon barrel. A touch of alcohol and sweetness, vanilla and butterscotch. The flavor still has plenty of bourbon barrel left to it. A sweet malt is also present but it has been significantly damaged by oxidization at this point. Cardboard is pronounced. It is not undrinkable, just not very good any more. Carbonation is all but gone. Watery mouth feel and thin body.

Bottle from Julios. Pours a hazy orange brown with a thick white head. Lots of etoh and bourbon in the nose. Very big in your face etoh. Lots of caramel malt and whiskey. Something just tasted off tho.

Bottle enjoyed on 8/23/08: Judging by the other ratings, this must have been an ugly baby that turned into a hot teen. A cloudy copper orange pour with a tiny white head. Aroma of citrus and sweet, candied fruit. Subtle ba notes and that bourbon element. Tastes quite smooth and sweet. Did I mention smooth? Caramel and citrus balance with the ba notes. More light fruitiness and ever so mellow. I wish I could remember who to thank for sending this one to Idaho!
