COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This year’s version of our annual limited release introduced a new step in the process, barrel aging. After primary fermentation, this step, done in aged bourbon barrels, adds a unique element to the beer. To go along with this special process we used three types of malts, including peated malt, in the fermentation. This combination adds elements to the beer reminiscent of fine Scotch Whiskeys. East Kent Golding hops add to the Scottish influence and round out this exceptionally complex brew. Once again, the beer is finished with a bottle conditioning step and, like its predecessors, should continue to improve with age. It is extremely limited, extremely strong, and extremely original, because as we like to say around here: "It’s All About Extremes!

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of kramer. Pours a clear amber with hardly any head. Aroma has distinct Bourbon - and manure. Medium body, completely flat, lots of sweet caramel, lots of Bourbon accents and nothing much more really. Warming alcoholic finish. 140310

750 ml bottle shared by shigadeyo. Pours a hazy orange amber color with very little head at all. The aroma leans heavily to the malty side with sweeter caramel and toasted malts dominating. There are some overly ripe fruit notes that come through as well. Signs of oxidation are present. The flavor is sweet caramel malts, ripe fruits, citrus, and a noticeable amount of oxidation. The alcohol peeks in from time to time but mostly provides a warming feeling. Medium-full bodied and smooth. Without trying it fresh, I wonder if the age has helped this one?

Bottle shared by shigadeyo. Poured clear copper color with a minimal off-white frothy head that mostly diminished with minimal lacing. Moderate prune, sweet malt and alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. I would and did share this with a freind.

2006 Vintage

8/20/2009: Newport Storm ’06... Aroma: Toasty malt, really nice caramel, great malt presence in the nose. Appearance: Shiny caramelized sugar color, pretty much transparent, very mild carbonation. Flavor: Sweet, nice level of caramelized and citrusy orange, a bit of oxidation, good alcochol showing through; suble English or Black Walnut... Scatch that -- Hazelnut! No alcohol in the flavor, but it is slightly warming. Palate: Overall: Very, very nice. DRINK NOW! It’s just about as good as it will probably get... Really nice caramel maltiness without being heavy; the oxidation works very well with this beer; extremely drinkable.

1 pt and 9.4 oz. corked bottle ྫ.9% abv) from jjpm74 via trade April 2007. Thanks John! Rating #88 for this beer.

Bottle. Cloudy orange amber pour with no head. Aroma of vanilla and malt. Taste of caramel, alcohol, hops and faint pepper. Thick, full body as with most barley wines. Tart finish. Not bad, but a bit disappointed since I saved this for a special occasion.

Bottle, thanks to alexanderj for bringing this back from rhode island, to virginia, to socal, to norcal. This bottle has traveled more of the US than most americans. On to the real stuff. Deep orange pour, no head or activity. Aroma is sweet caramel and peppery alcohol. Flavor is the same, pretty syrupy. Not very flavorful.
