COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For 2007 the brewers have selected a blend of 7 malts and 7 hops to create our unique annual limited release. When you decide to open this, you will notice a pitch black ale that pours with small brown head. The aroma is full of citrusy and floral notes, not only from the hops added from the boil but also the hops added after fermentation, the dry hop stage. Finally, one taste of this years beer and you will understand why it is so dark, roasted chocolately and malty flavors are abundant from the various dark malts that make up so much of the recipe. It is extremely limited, extremely strong and extremely original, because as we like to say around here "Its all about extremes!"

750mL Bottle poured at the brewery tasting room for The "Odd" Years Vertical Tasting. Incredibly strong and pungent dusty oxidation nose. Flat as a pancake. The dark malt complexity is enjoyable in the finish, but it’s hard to ride through the syrupy, dusty patois of oxidation. Nearing soy sauce quality. Faded.

Clear brown pour with no real amount of head. Very unusual ’pine cone’ note on the nose. The oxidized soy sauce flavor was offputting for most people at the tasting, but I really dig it so I rated it a bit higher. Wish it had a bit more carbonation, as this thing was very flat.

(750ml bottle) Pours a cloudy mahogany body with a spare tan head. Aroma of mustiness, raisins, roasted malt, citrus, and florals. Flavor of caramel, roasted malt, raisins, and chocolate.

Thispoured a dark brown color with a tiny beige head. Aroma was molasses toffee, chocolate, and minty oxidation. Flavor chocolate covered cardboard, but with nice roast and dark fruit and malt flavors.

A: It should be noted this beer comes in a corked wine bottle with no cap or cage, and is maybe 85% full. The beer itself is a murky dark brown color with no head. S: Smells sort of like I expected. Caramel, toffee, chocolate, and oxidation--cardboard to be specific. It’s got a bit of a dusty smell to it which is really off-putting. Maybe a hint of anise and booze. T: Not much better in terms of the flavor. The dust and cardboard really come through here. Decent caramel and chocolate, but there’s a definite soy sauce thing going on as well. M: Medium in body with very minimal carbonation (obviously). O: Not sure if this was ever good, but it certainly isn’t now.

I’ve had this bottle in my cellar since last year, today seemed like the day to pop her open. sampled 7/18/2008 Pours a dark brown/black with no head at all. Not sure if the carbonation leaked out of the cork, or if it never had any to begin with. The aroma is intense. Lots of Molasses, chocolate, alcohol, citrus hops, and wine like smells going on here. Taste has a bit of alcohol, chocolates coffee. What I’m really missing is the roasted barley. Mouthfeel is a bit creamy/oily and the body is thick. Overall its not bad, nothing to write home about, but certainly good enough to drink it all down.
