3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 12/20 auerbrau (2953) - Peace Dale, Rhode Island, USA - NOV 29, 2012750mL Bottle and on draft at Beervana. The stinging back of the throat heat and stomach burning sensation were memorable from both festival and bottle. In the bottle, it’s a bit more nuanced, with fruitiness from the chili in the nose and the flavor. I don’t get much chipotle smokiness, just harsh and strong back of the throat heat. The cocoa is present and chocolate is the dominating flavor of the beer. After that, it’s just burn. I don’t know if the chocolate and chilis covered it up, but I’m impressed that the alcohol has been hidden and that that there are no glaring off-flavors. Otherwise, most of this bottle is going to be used to marinate some chicken thighs tonight.

Corked and waxed blue glass wine size bottle. Unique. Wax was difficult to remove.
A - very smoky spicy aroma. The various peppers are prominent. APP - Darker than expected with a foamy khaki head. This beer just looks spicy! T - Peppers, malt, smoke (heavy) and Tabasco. Also some alcohol, but it is hard to notice over the intense spicy smokyness. P -Light carbonation wish there were more. Relatively thick. Overall ok,but very spicy and slow drinking. Going to try with BBQ Chicken.

Smells spicy, malty, and smoky. Pours dark with very small head. Tastes malty, definetly spicy. Doesn’t have a huge alcohol taste, but is warming and spicy.Excellent beer.
4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Bamaboy1975 (85) - Suffolk, Virginia, USA - MAR 8, 2013
Poured this one into a snifter. The thick tan head indicates a bit more carbonation on this one than other limited release beers from Newport Storm. The aroma is roasted with sweet malt and chocolate. No sign of the chipotle that the description indicates. The first sip matches the aroma with chocolate, roast, and a bit of smoke. Then it hits, the finish has the spicy chipotle that lingers subtly in the back of the throat. It was surprisingly easy to drink this beer considering the spicy character. Certainly the most interesting beer I’ve had, and a good one as well.

750 ml corked and waxed cobalt blue bottle poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of cocoa, carmel, chipotles, habanero and light cinnamon. Palate was medium bodied and smoth with a dry warming finish. Flavors of cocoa, habanero, chipotles, cinnamon, light carmel and light earthiness with a smooth dry warming lingering cocoa finish. Great beer, would love more of this!
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20 CamdenD (979) - Madrid, SPAIN - DEC 27, 2012
UPDATED: DEC 31, 2012 Wow, quite spicy, for a beer. The chipotle does come through on the nose and the tongue, which is amazing. The whole taste is a bit one-sided, but this beer seems to overcome any possible cloying one-trick pony sideshow that is implied by the description. Got tough to drink after about 5 oz.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 beerbill (3044) - Laurel, New York, USA - JUL 16, 2012
750 ml cobalt blue bottle. I was surprised to see this beer make such an early appearance this year. Also, this year’s edition is sealed with red wax, which is a royal pain in the ass. The beer pours a deep brown with a moderate tan head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass and left partial lace. Pleasant aroma of chipotles and malt. Nice combination; I like it! The flavor is quite nice with a solid dose of the chipotles and malt followed some moderate-strong heat from the habaneros. The heat is not excessive nor does it linger for a long time on the palate. I didn’t pick up the cocoa nibs in the aroma or the flavor. Mild bitterness at the finish. Medium-full bodied. Rich and smooth on the palate. Very good!
