Ursula adds yet another unique twist to Newport Storm’s Cyclone Series of limited release beers. A first for the series, Ursula employs two different yeast strains (lager and champagne) added at different times to create this complex pale lager. Traditional European malt and Czech Saaz hops connect this beer with the roots of lager while the champagne yeast gives it a remarkably dry and crisp finish for a beer over 6% ABV. Appropriately, for a beer from the Ocean State, Ursula is especially well suited at accompanying all types of seafood.

Process notes –Long 5 week lager fermentation, Saaz dry hopping, secondary fermentation with champagne yeast.

Light floral, almost spicy aroma. This beer looks close to an amber ale, which is to say it does not look like yellow pale lager. Very sweet earthy taste, blended dark and tropical fruit with a bitter back bite and some obvious strength. Slick body, rapidly filling though as it is dense. Another experiment in lagering, even if not the best.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a crystal clear copper with a thin linen white head that disappears after the second sip and leaves light lace. Pleasant aroma of malt and caramel with a touch of sweetness. The flavor is similar with malt and caramel followed by some mild grassy hops. Lightly sweet. Medium bodied. Solid lager.

12oz Bottle, purchased at Kingstown Liquors - Kingstown, RI. Aroma smells like old Thursday night darts league and Vienna malt, sugar sweet. A strong, sickly sweetness dominates this beer, riddled with yeastiness and minerals, leaving a coarse, grating bitterness in the back of the throat. A giant pile of unfermented fermentable malt sugars tears up the middle of this fruit mess. It’s like two flamingos in a fruit fight, all gaudy and sticky sweet.
