4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This rating is a combination of draft and 12 oz. bottle that I purchased @ Nikki’s Liquors, Providence, R.I. This is how you want a stout to look, pitch black with a tan head that laced on the way down. Nose is intense roasted barley, chocolate and a bit of charred malt. The flavor is very rich with layers of roasted malt and burnt barley. Experienced palates may think the body is a bit thin, well… maybe so. But for me the 9 % ABV is nowhere here and the light body gives this Imperial stout amazing drinkability. So amazing that I can drink this like it’s a 5 or 6 % alcohol brew. Bitterness is added by a light Warrior hop that complements the roasted malt real nice. A perfect dessert and can pair well with most lots of chocolate or vanilla dishes. Texture is creamy and smooth. Anybody who lives in New England will tell you this is the best Newport Storm has ever brewed. This brewery should make this a yearly winter offering.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle courtesy of AirForceHops. Dark chocolate, coffee, and fruity soy sauce type aroma. Pours viscous black with a small brown head. Dark bitter baker’s chocolate, coffee, and ash flavor with a hefty roast bitter finish. Full body, soft carbonation.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma of coffee and brown sugar with curious dark fruit and soy sauce understones. Pitch black a touch of brown head. Taste is mainly of dark malt sweetness. Does ’chocolate wheat’ contribute a fruity taste like as seen in wheat ales? Wouldn’t have put two and two together if not for the description. Very heavy, and though while smooth, it has the palate consistency of the grease pens dealers write on windshields with.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Worth the effort, probably the best of the cyclone series so far, Ryan was real good too. Pours and impenetrable dark black with small brown head. Smells of roasted malts, chocolate coffee and yeast. Taste is smooth with little carbonation but a heavy mouth-feel. Taste’s of roasted malts, chocolate and finishes with a dry coffee like bitterness. Very good and comparable to Russian Imperial Stouts like Old Rasputin I’m sad it will eventually go away.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz Bottle, purchased at Wakefield Liquors - Wakefield, RI. Big strong cocoa, charcoal, and toasted almond aroma. This is good! A nice bustling dry stout gets a hint of umami soy along the way with warming alcohol and browned malt. The finish is a little lacking with something needed for a crisp, snappy close or a long graceful departure. Gets a hint over-roasted at times with a bit too much ash, but overall this is decent.
