Commercial Description:
(Sep. 1st - Oct. 31st) A Märzen style lager abound with sweet malt flavor and a complex hop aroma. "Regenschauer" is the German word for rainstorm that fits perfectly with autumn in New England as well as this beer made in the traditional Oktoberfest style. This hearty lager has a toasted malt flavor typical of the German malts used to make it. Its aroma is a mixture of hop citrus and a faint hint of the lager yeasts used to make it. SPECS: 14 SRM, OG 1.058, FG 1.015, 5.3% abv, 16.5 IBUs. Malts: Pils, Munic, Vienna, Cara-Pils. Hops: Saaz, Magnum, Tradition, Golding

Pours orange with a thick white two finger head. Aroma is malty, but something seems off about it. Maybe a bitterness in the aroma ( I know bitterness isn’t a descriptive word for aroma). I would have to agree with another review that I get somewhat of a plain yogurt sourness in the flavor. The flavor starts of with a sweeter carmel like flavor than finishes slightly bitter.

Bottle: Crisp deep orange pour with a white film of head. Dry, clean, spicy and firm Vienna malts with a biscuity grain note. Light body- slightly oily in texture. Firm malty body- a bit worty, however, with a ton of sour dough character- almost tart. Oily and sour dough dominated. Not really dry enough with only a nondescript mild peppery finish. OK.

Bottle sampled on 7/3/08: Pours a transparent deep golden with a thin coating of white head. Aroma of toasted grainy German malts with a touch of lemon citrus and noble hops. Body starts semi-effervescent and semi dry with some grainy flavors and a touch of smoke and tartness toward the finish.

On tap at Asgard, Cambridge MA, October 2009. Clear copper colour. Very fruity aroma and flavour. So much so that I wondered whether they had not entirely pulled through the Newport Storm Blueberry that it had only just replaced. I was assured that was not the case but you never know. It was certainly not entirely to my taste. Fairly sweet with hints of bready malt. But the fruit just kept returning. Think I’ll give this another go some time.

Pours a three finger cream head that fades quickly to a thin layer leaving a good lace. Hazy light amber color. Light-medium carbonation and light-medium bodied. Light malty nose. Flavor is weak caramel and citrus tartness. $1.58 for a 12oz bottle from Beverage Warehouse Winooski, VT. Best by Feb no year given, can we assssume 2010?? I bought this in July so year could be 2009.

(Bottled) Poured amber and clear with medium sized and white head. Aroma of malts, metallicness and sweetness. Medium bodied palate with medium carbonation. Tasted of malts, grass, sweetness, lightly bitterness and fruitiness. Malty aftertaste. Sort of a hoppy märzen.

On tap at Mew’s Tavern. Enjoyed during a particularly strong regenschauer. Particularly aromatic aroma, full of classic Munich malt and rich fall scents. Pours a hazy copper-amber, with minimal head. Flavor is quite a disappointment compared to the aroma. Thin, slightly husky and grainy malt sugars, much less body than the aroma lets on and some some alcohols. A kind of fizzling sugary body, not the crisp snapiness I want to get out of a nice lager like this. Hops are more or less absent. Just tastes kind of thin, watery, and bland. It’s weird, the good malt flavors are there, but the body just falls short.

Picked this up on Mass trip and shared with Philly gents. Poured a copper brown with an off-white head. A slight honey roast on the nose. Muddled grain and nuts with a hop-spicy sweetness. Some bitterness/bit dry towards the end.
