Monger (474), Roscoe, Illinois, USA Jun 18, 2008 Bottle from Mystery Beer Swap 3.0. Pours a dark brown color with a medium sized tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt. Taste of vanilla, chocolate, and roasted malt. Has a dry, slightly bitter finish. Nice brew.
alexanderj (1350), San Diego, California, USA Jun 21, 2008 Bottle; poured a dark, cola brown with a little light brown head. Aroma of sweet chocolate, caramel; light roasted malt presence. Low carbonation; soft on the palate. Flavor was ok, but unexciting. Caramel mostly with some chocolate and roasted notes. Forgettable. Ughsmash (3086), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Mar 21, 2008 Bottled. Poured clear medium-deep brown with a short-lived cap of beige head. The aroma picked up sweetened-up caramel and sweeter chocolates with light roast to it.. some herbal accents and a touch of oak. The flavor was chocolate-based and sweeter with notes of cola and tea.. sticky molasses, herbal, and medicinal notes at the finish. Medium-bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. OK balance.. a bit too sweet. beerbill (1324), Laurel, New York, USA Mar 19, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear dark brown that allows diminished light to pass through when held against a lamp. Moderate off-white head that lasted until mid-glass and left a layer of lace after each sip. Pleasant aroma of malt with some sweet notes detected as well. Equally pleasant flavor of malt, caramel and orange pekoe tea with some decent hops bitterness at the finish. I was surprised to read this was a porter; I would not have guessed it, but enjoyable nonetheless. The_Epeeist (986), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 3, 2008 12 oz bottle. Dark but clear purple brown with a smooth beige head. Nose of grassy grape juice. Medium light with buzzy carb. Taste is plum and nutmeg. Gets bitter with dry grapefruit peel. Kind of a spiced IPA to me.
