3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 weaselkenievil (1089) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - APR 25, 2011
Bottle, 2005. Drank last summer. Trying to drown away the memory of watching England get ripped apart by Germany in the world cup. Got off a stall in Macclesfield. They only had one, never sold a beer before, probably never will again. Won it in a raffle. So bit random how I got hold of this one. Clear orange colour with a thin to medium off white head. Strong alcohol in the aroma with some dark fruit, spices, christmas cake, cherry. Flavour as some caramel notes, sweetness and sugar. It’s good, bit heavy palate though that got a bit tiresome necking the bottle to myself.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Metalchopz (1173) - Quebec, CANADA - SEP 30, 2010
2004 edition (originally rated June 2005) - comes in a green wine bottle, but no cork, just a bottlecap. This Canadian Ice-bock pours an amber-red colour with lively tiny-bubble carbonation. The off-white head is creamy, and as it dissipates slowly, a thin layer coats the brew. The nose is roasted malts and apples. Nice creamy mouthfeel, very smooth. Taste the caramel is it is going down with the roasted malts. Good bitterness in the finish, with apple in the aftertaste. Beautiful lacing left as the brew goes down... and it goes down easy. I would try this anytime... as long as I am not driving.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 3fourths (6218) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - SEP 24, 2010
750ml, bottle-conditioned. vintage unknown, guessing 2004-2006. high carbonation, overrunning the bottle. sherry-accented nose has notes of old fruit skins, wood tannins and sherry - usually something I don’t enjoy - but the lager yeast seems balancing. creamy and frothy up front, milky smooth texture across the middle with a thinning, drying finish, leaving dark fruit skin and oak barrel lingering flavors. pasty and oxidized, but an interesting presentation, and a treat to try another bottle-conditioned lager, even if it isn’t very good.

Bottle. This is a copper colour in the glass, with a small white head. The aroma is malty with some raisin, mild grain, leafy green hops. I taste some nuttiness, more raisin, brown bread, caramel, alcohol.

Many thanks to Matt for sending this my way, 2007 vintage!! Poured fiery reddish-orange with a short cap of off-white to beige head. The aroma picked up ripe plums and other dark fruit with grapefruit meat and dry, dusty spices accenting.. digging deeper, aged caramel and brown sugar show.. quite nice. The flavor opened with a very dry, tightly-carbonated feel backed by caramel and dark fruity notes.. white pepper and some alcohol warmth surrounded.. finished with very dry warmth leaving more of an impression than the flavor. Medium-bodied and dry (as mentioned) on the palate.. mild fruity bitterness gave welcome character considering the age.. all around some solid stuff.

Got it as my Masters grade exam beer. I expect more form it but after more than a year and a half of aging it, it worth it.
