matt7215 (578), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Apr 19, 2008 Updated: Jun 26, 2008 341 ml bottle from a 6’er from the LCBO. pours amber with a nice tight white head. aromas are at first not present but after some warming nice malts come through. flavours are malty as well but not caramel or chocolate. breadiness flavours but no hops are present. very light bodied and easy to drink. i would not have guessed this was 5.5% from the flavour or mouthfeel. ok on the verge of being good. im glad i still have 5 more.[P]
i tried this at cellar temp and it is much better then my first rating. the malts are much more pronounced and enjoyable. tonight it would have been 8,4,8,4,14 is equal to 3.8 so i will balance the 2 ratings.
puzzl (1823), New York, New York, USA Sep 9, 2008 Bottle. Strong ale? Eh? Not quite. Pretty mild, a bit corny and syrupy, not fermented enough. Lacks any kind of decent hop character. Way too sweet. My mom would probably like this. Ah well. mabel (1673), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 20, 2008 [1582-20080810] Tap. Mild old brown grains aroma. Clear, amber brown body with a quick white foamy head. Fruity grains flavour is a little sweet. Medium body. Fair.
(@ TFOB 2008; Toronto, ON) JesseM (407), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Jun 9, 2008 341ml bottle from The Big Bad Brewer’s Retail. Pours a very deep amberish copper with a small white head. Aroma is a very nice upfront maltiness, lots of toffee, and caramel. The flavour is very sweet, again, very nice blend of malty characters, mostly classic roasted toffee and caramel, with a hint of peat. Almost like an EPA without the hops, as there is virtually no hop activity in this one. For an "English Strong Ale", it’s a great summer brew, very refreshing and drinkable, reminds me a bit of Tankhouse. Another solid beer from a solid brewery. douglas88 (830), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA May 30, 2008 Thanks to matt7215 for this one. Pours a clear amber with a small white head. The aroma is fruit and some toffee. The taste is kinda like a chocolate covered cherry over toasted malts. Some light hops and a kinda odd glue flavor. Fizzy body with a smooth finish. Nice. Very easygoing but a lot of flavor. jjpm74 (3161), Stratford, CT 06614, Connecticut, USA May 20, 2008 Bottle courtesy of matt7215. Pours red with a thin white head. Smells fruity (strawberries, cherries). Tastes of caramel malt, some light tartness, touches of earthiness. Enjoyable.
