3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Brown color, with a rather large, tan head. Aroma is fruity, with banana, spice and malt. Flavor starts out sweet, with dark fruit and spice coming thru the most. There is hops there as well. Aging may help this one.

2003 750 ml Bottle. A leftover from last year. I think that it may be worth cellaring this another year. Reddish brown, clear, tan lasting "Nice" head. Aroma of sharp cheese, musty fruit, and hops. Flavor is sharp and hoppy. Thin and thick at the same time. Malty, yet the alcohol thins tha palate. Suprised by the extreme hops in this one, especially after a year.

Tap @ Blind Tiger. Almost red in color with hardly a head (6 oz serving). Aroma is fruity, malty and sweet. Taste is some dried fruits, cinamon & pepper and malt. Not too sweet, balanced and medium bodied. Interesting and complex.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
My first "Christmas" beer of the season, and a damn fine one at that. Pours great turbid dark brown with a medium, off-white head. Aroma of malt, barnyard, similar to Westy 12. Tastes malty, with great complexity and balance, and a slightly dry finish. I detected spices, florals, citrus, and dark fruits in the taste. A world class beer.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured brown with a decent head. Good aroma consisting of fruit, malt, caramel and vanilla. Flavor had all those components plus a little spiciness. Very good, especially for the winter months.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
From the 2002 bottling. This dark amber beer pours with a tall lacy tan long-lasting head, eliciting a pleasant malty aroma. There is a concomitant strong malt flavor with a chocolate finish. As the beer warms, various spice flavors become apparent. In my opinion, this is the best brew from Achouffe.

Terrific brown ale in the strong style. The extra spices do make a bit of difference in the resulting flavor, but it’s a pretty straightforward brown/strong ale. Probably better after aging a bit, although there’s no cork in the bottle so I was wary of extended aging. I liked it better the first time; the second time it was a bit more alcoholic tasting, but in a bad way (I tried it on different days).
